Ugh.... moreSony has a slightly if not entirely, bad relationship with the USA regarding its phone because the USA is the country where its signature-side power key + fingerprint sensor combo patent was denied in 2015, disabled for all 2015-2017 Xperias with FPS, and happened after the deals with carriers fell through with the Z4v and remained that way until 2017 before moving to back in 2018, moving to side but decoupling the function in 2019, and returning to the way it was in 2020 with a newer patent. The fingerprint and power key combo was granted to Apple in 2017 (https://www.gsmarena.com/apple_granted_patent_for_fingerprint_reader_on_the_power_key-news-25582.php) and made Sony unpleasant. Political things and factors, I said. Sony tried everything to please them, but the US just doesn't care, so Sony is probably responding by not making 5 V available in the USA officially, at least for now.

This is being marketed as 21:9 movie phone yet the display only boosts to 900 nits (Samsung AMOLED easily 1200+) and doesn't support Dolby Vision and HDR10+

Google the difference between HDR10 and HDR10+, the "+" sign matters.

not only too expensive, because sony apparently has no or only useless processor and phone cooling (my experience) they throttle the processor clock frequency, and even with that the sony things getting very warm :-(,
what a pity, i liked the sony smartphone very much

Man start reading and improve knowledge. You even dont know what HDR means. HDR is dynamic range of sensor (dynamic range of smartphone sensor and full frame sensor will be different even without HDR) or how much LEVELS of brightness (colors) can display holds/achive.
At now, Xperia 1V (on 24mm) has the best HDR video recording on the market.
You even dont know that allmost all smarpthones records colors with compression (4:2:0) and Long-GOP mode soo that dynamic tone mapping is only marketing.
When I records something most of time I lock exposure (brightness) to make sure that exposure desnt change in different brightness regions.

Why would you not include a 256GB option on every market when you have a 48MP main camera?
Even if it's a last resort cost cutting option to just have one storage option... there are regions where 256GB is available. I really don't understand this strategy.
Make me pay more for 256GB! Give me this option at least!

Another thing is of the lack of a zoom lens... Ok the variable zoom lens is too big... Why not just a fixed 70mm? Series 5 was always a smaller but stil higher spec phone, now it's not cheap not high spec... worst of both worlds.
All I want is a Xperia 1 V but shrunken down to 6.1", can be the same price. Call it Xperia 2 V

I just wanted something without a notch or hole punch and with a headphone jack. That's how I even landed here in the Sony world. We don't get these in my country and I even decided to buy one from Amazon.de (paying the extra import duty and stuff).

The price at which it sells is already too much and it becomes bizarre on adding the import duty. That and the poor software support are things preventing me from pre-ordering this right now. Don't care about the "free" headphones either as I have enough headphones already.

I initially wanted to get the Xperia 10 V, but the comments about it's lag held me back. I might still get it and save some money because my Pixel 3a with is SD670 worked fine for my use case, so SD695 shouldn't be that bad.

But the 999 price tag and the crappy CH-700N this came with (was XM4 last year) turned me off completely. Not to mention it has a budget non-HDR10+ screen with thicker bezels than last year's. HDR10 is not real HDR

thanks. I already considered both zenfone and s23. I am willing to compromise on battery life and sd card (also plastic back on zenfone and one ui on samsung). if anyone can share their opinions on the s23 and zenfone cameras. I found this https://youtu.be/ZHwyGuHaa1A?feature=shared but not sure if it is legit. seems the 5 v has the best pictures but it is marginal. real human opinions are welcomed. based on those I just might wait for the s24 or just buy the 5 v. from what I heard there will no longer be zenfones.

9. Yeah because they're convenient on the streets. At home, people might want to use wired ones to get better audio. Are they not allowed to? Removing the headphone jack means that they are not allowed to. It's okay if you want to be bullied by these stupid companies. 🙂

I'm relatively new on the GSMArena comments sections (been using the site for years, just never created an account, nor came to the comments section). I'm surprised to see how many people are willing to argue with strangers. I'm like, what will you actually achieve? If you like a device, buy it. Else, don't. You go on to the page of that phone which you don't like and are never going to buy, and argue with the people who love that phone!! Why? Just why?

why to consider this phone:
+
01. size. one of the smallest on the market. very few other options!
02. build. glass front and back.
03. chipset. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. more efficient than the previous generation.
04. gpu. Adreno 740. none of that mali stuff
05. microSDXC
06. cameras. main is one of the best. secondary is fine. no useless cameras.
07. camera software. great if you feel like getting into photography
08. selfie camera is great.
09. 3.5mm and sound.
10. 5000 mAh battery and Battery life
11. front facing speakers
12. no punch hole.
13. looks. subjective but it looks great.

why to avoid this phone.
-
01. price. unless it is bundled with something else, it is too expensive. considering the new iphones and samsungs and pixels that will come in the next few months, it is definitely a ripoff.
02. display. it is still great but there is oled colour shift at extreme angles. not the most high quality display for the price and there are bigger black bars than previous model 5 iv. this seems to be the biggest disappointment for me.

if you watch a lot of youtube content, screen might be a bit small due to the width of the screen. but it is easier to handle with one hand.

if anyone in the comments can suggest a phone that is almost identical to 5 V but at a lower price, please inform me. sure, you can find a lot of those features in other phones, but there will always be compromises either in the build, the cameras or the battery life.

I still don't understand why ppl think that you can compare a 6.8" phone to the 6.1" sony. let alone a phone with ColorOS. I've already tried other similar OSs and it is not worth it in my opinion to get used to something other that the standard android. but I will entertain you with an answer to your points.

1. bruh. I go to youtube on a phone for asmr - mainly listening so this argument is invalid. I have a pc and there I watch youtube most of the time.
2. don't care. I got money to burn.
3. you are wrong.
4. whatever.
5. currently don't have a 3.5 earphone. I used 4.4 pentacon, type-c and buds2
6. don't care.

statements like "There is absolute no reason to buy this phone for 999 unless you are brainwashed by Sony" just make you sound like an "insert any brand here" fanboy. currently sony has not invented a brainwashing software so pretty much everything you say is just spam. also, if you feel like you need a bang for your buck, you can get 5v with WHCH720 now on amazon.de for 999 euro.

I will never understand why fans of other brands come here and s**t on a phone which does not have an equivalent on the market. also hate a brand which has less than 1% market share. talk about brainwashed.
