Also, forgot about the night mode, 12MP camera sensor that works better in low light that doesn't sacrifice the natural look of the photo like google oversaturated unrealistic night mode. In short, Normal mode for realistic natural true-to-life photos and a night mode for the auto.
Use multiple small front camera setup or something to make the top and bottom bezel as small as possible (without cutting a camera notch or pinhole) to maximize the compact-ness.
Easily becomes the best all round phone.

The xperia 5IV is already an almost perfect phone (I use it). Swap the chip with a more efficient one and a bigger heatsink, make better software with less bugs, add a native gallery app instead of using google photos, remove the bloat (linked in, facebook, etc), uniform front firing stereo speaker design and it can easily be THE all round phone.
Weird why they need to upgrade the sensor size to 48MP for no reason, 12MP is already good for many things. 12MP 2x or 3x telephoto + 12MP wide camera is better than one 48MP wide camera. Heck, your photo will get compressed anyway if you post it in social media. 12MP is more than enough for printing out the photo too.
I really don't understand the hype with 100000MP++ camera lens. Tf you're trying to take pictures of someone from another galaxy or something? Bigger number feels good i guess? Trying to overcompensate?

I mean...
The lack of a zoom isn't the end of the world (especially since a 12MP with 2x zoom is similar to a 48MP crop anyway, and I highly doubt we could have expected more than that given the 1V) and other than that the specs are pretty good (USB3 in particular is a good thing to have for some). I also rather like the fact it has USB3 for those who need it and a headphone jack (a rare combo at any size, even if I don't need video out), and I can very much see the benefit of dual front firing speakers as well as an uninterrupted screen even if those aren't exactly requirements for me either)
I just don't get the rest of it. 128GB base at 1000 Euros is an absolute joke in 2023 (and no, the MicroSD card slot isn't a good fix, even if I didn't have a failure rate so ridiculously high I can't trust the data to still exist, it won't do much for those who play a bunch of games on their phone), the 21:9 screen doesn't make much sense for most content (YouTube is still mainly 16:9 or 18:9) so all it really does is move the center of gravity higher for marginal at best benefit and the glass back is going to be a huge problem even if you're using a case. I haven't even mentioned the poor thermals that Sony is notorious for at this point.
This just confirms to me the Zenfone 10 was the right decision: it's easier to hold, way cheaper and has one less easily breakable surface.

Preinstalled OS is not upgrade.
It's just two OS upgrade and three year patches.
"The Sony Xperia 1 V and 10 V both only get three years of updates. That is, they receive various security patches during that period to ensure digital security. The smartphones will only receive two major Android updates, which means that Android 14 and 15 will still appear on the smartphones

I am not impressed but hear me out.
The bezels??? It's a broken record now. I'd take these bezels over any notch or ugly camera cut any time of the day. plus you get front-facing speakers.
The telephoto? I won't miss it. Any tele is lacking in terms of image quality. I don't use them on my 5III and my Honor M5P.
As for the 128GB storage, they gave you the option to use an extra terabyte of SD memory. Don't moan!
Still, I am not that impressed. I think the price should start at 899$ and 849£. I am not impressed as well by the thermal management. I believe the 1V is a much better buy now that its price has come down a bit. Imported from Asian markets, you could get it for 791£ in the UK.

[deleted post]Same here on my 5III. Overheating like crazy and now I sent it to the service centre as the FP stopped working. I already bought the Honor Magic 5 Pro. A much better phone than the Xperia 1/5 V IMO

On price the 5 V and 5 IV Launched exactly the same £849 & €999
(You can bet the CEO at Sony will be getting a sever le reprimand from Tim Cooke)
There is a 256 GB option
https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=12534&idPhone2=11838
IMO it wouldn't any sense to me to sell a higher memory option in selected areas. Just my opinion
Sony Xperia support memory cards upto ITb (as do the higher Samsung A series)
The A52S was the last A phone to use 3.5mm jack,
I personally don't know why say 128Gb is low and a deal breaker
In addition to microSd support you have USB OTG so whatever stick size you have bought can be attached look I am NOT saying walking around attached.
Albeit they are not as fast as UFS why would you need to have immediate access to 256Gb immediatly
Wireless charging is MORE wasteful in power used than wired.
There are both benefits and disadvantages to having an Esim, you have considered it a plus (as I haven't used one yet aware, if and when it affects me well.
Sony have promised THREE ANDROID UPDSTES, installed and two other.
2025 Android 15, security patches up to 31/12/2025
I feel that some Android update do have benefits they are incorporated apps
On security patches, Google is looking for flaws introduced, or in some cases missed. It does pay third parties to look for vulnerabilities.
Those of you who state 3 years or five years is too little remember ownership of theyour Android Handset gives us power
If say a virus popped up, let's give this virus a name Universe ICE, and infected your phone
Dies anyone believe that Google or tour handset maker is just going to sit by and do nothing and then only seed the solution to those still eligible to receive security updates,
The answer is no, not whilst Apple is selling expensively exorbitant iPhones.
Your installed Antivirus will be looking for a solution also
Overheating issues noticed in 5 IV have all been been eradicated

It's a shame they remove such important feature. Lack of microSD can be somewhat tolerated if 256gb exist, but definitely annoying. However, lack of 3.5mm jack is intolerable.
