Here is the pricing of phones in Malaysia for comparison.
Xperia M5 LTE - RM1200
Xperia M5 Dual - RM1600
Xperia Z3 Compact - RM1900
Xperia Z3+ (Plus) - RM2600
Galaxy S6 - RM2075
Galaxy S6 Edge - RM2452
NOTE:
* Sony phones can be bought for much cheaper from non-Sony retail shops. Example, Z3 Compact goes for RM1400. I could not find Z3 at Sony Store today.
* Samsung phones recently had an official price drop. S6 use to cost the same as Z3+ while S6 Edge use to cost more (I am mentioning this in case other countries did not have a price cut).

I've had a hands-on on this phone and it feels but obviously is not worth my 37000 Rupees as the only visible improvement is on camera. I already sold my M4 to make way for this but now is either I go back to M4 or get Z3 for less than that price.

Ser, 12 Sep 2015For a midrange phone the price is huge. For this price I sh... morehmm.. where I'm from, this phone costs almost 2 times cheaper than Samsung galaxy s6 and xperia z3+. The price seems good to me.
I got to play around with this phone today at Sony Store and it does feel solid. Above midrange level but a bit below flagships.

The phone look gorgeous on back and in laterals, but the face look very ugly. The upper and lower bezels are to huge. Sony can do much more than that.

For a midrange phone the price is huge. For this price I should buy a Samsung galaxy s6 or a xperia z3+.

This pricing incidence on sony m5 in india had open my eyes that manufacturer do price their product differently from country to to country with a huge discepency in price too. What the hell with these marketing COE, dont they know that we can get online from countries across the globe. Now we can get a seller from taiwan in ebay for less than $400...

I M5 Xperia users. Battery life is very frugal, no overheating, but the speakers sound weak.

what is this sony u have gone madd or what... U told its a super midrange phone...and id 37k is ur superrr midrange phone huh... I waited for this phone from last 2 months but u diappointed me.... I reallly got fed up... If ur not gonna decrease the rate the phone is going to flopp in the market and by the way u are releasing z5 series so if u dnt decrease then everyone gonna buy the z5 series.... Really got diappointed with the price tag....
