I'm not sure what do you want to do with partitioning, but you should take care to use non-destructive partition manager (otherwise it might delete all your data). Also notice that you cannot shrink partition below the amount of used data (for instance, if you have 500 GB HDD and 200 GB is occupied with your programs and data, you cannot shrink it below 200 GB, to prevent that you delete useful data from disk).

If you have Extended partition you cannot shrink it before you shrink Logical partition(s) inside Extended partition, and Primary partitions can be resized freely, as long as there is enough space on disk.

You probably heard that you can update Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 for free, and thats understandable since 8.1 is regular (and free) update for Windows 8.

You need file shredding software only if you worry passionately about your security, otherwise, use your phone/PC as usually, and do this deletion process only when selling or disposing your device.

jeena, 05 Apr 2014iam worried about the pictures that are deleted before, one ... morejeena,

It's difficult to explain it without writing long posts tedious for reading.

I wasn't using any special terms. So let's explain why deleting everything and then copying huge files.

When you delete some file from your smartphone (or PC-s hard-disk) you are not deleting actual file, but just pointer to the specific file in the internal 'address book' which tells to your smartphone what file you stored on the memory, and where it is.

This way, deleting any file, no matter how big it is, takes same amount of time (very, very fast) but leave actual data on disk, until some new data overwrites it.

Programs that 'undelete' files works in a way that they scan memory without using 'address book', and they can restore files that have been deleted, but not overwritten.

So, if you delete your pictures from your smartphone, pictures information would still be there, but regular OS programs would not be able to 'see' it (because they are not in 'address book').

But, if your transfer some files to your smartphone they will overwrite previous data (including your pictures information).

I mentioned movies, because they are big enough to fill your smartphone memory fast, otherwise, you would need to copy very long number of smaller files.

After you fill up all your memory with some files, and delete them, 'undeleting' will discover these movies, but not your pictures (because the files you transferred from your PC actually deleted your pictures).

                          Happy now? :-)

This part is not affected by Factory reset procedure or update to new OS (it would be very awkward if OS update would erase user files.

You can install some file browser like ES File Explorer and manually delete all files and folders in /sdcard (you can delete pictures inside Album app), and the (to be sure that no one can undelete your files, you can copy couple of huge files (preferably movies) from your PC to the Phone memory until it's full. Then delete these files again, and that should do the trick.
