I think this is a product relying heavily on Sony Alpha users to invest in name-brand convenience
The goal, from what it sounds, is that you'd be buying into a secondary unit to act as the Robin to your Batman - the Sony mirrorless camera. The huge problem with this concept is the cost: you could buy a hell of a better camera as your secondary for half the cost, and even less on a second monitor if your project requires it. Want to invest in a piece of videography/photography hardware that carries the Sony name? Well, the majority of Sony Alpha cameras cost under 3,000usd and have a far superior sensor/lens/battery combo, so why should you invest in a "phone" that cost similarly to a piece of actual professional equipment, knowing for sure it won't produce the same quality? Because it's also a phone? Because it can be used as a monitor? Because it can be your secondary in the field? There doesn't seem to be anything to gain from this when compared with other competition that can do the same job.
Maybe there's something I'm missing, but as a photographer/videographer who's worked in the industry for over 10 years, there's a ton of top-notch equipment I'd rather use for 2,500usd...

speaker looks more beautiful than 1MK2, I think Xperia 1' speaker design more comfortable.

Anonymous, 27 Jan 2021You all ways complain...I wonder what type of work you do..ehhhhI may not be a triple digit earning Harvard professor myself, but with that English I can tell you aren't working as a college professor yourself. I make minimum wage as a cashier and I'm not afraid to say that because (1) I have a job and contribute to something, (doubt you do) and (2) I'm not gonna be making millions in my first job position.
Ask any of my coworkers to see if I "all ways complain" and they'll tell you I don't ever.

I'm really disappointed that they delayed this phone for so long and now that it's finally avail for pre-order its SOC and modem is already dated and they even doubled cost.... It was initially proposed to be $1300-1600 at most which while is expensive is still fairly affordable for what it did. However now that it's even more expensive than the rigs themselves at $2500, it kinda makes it a glorified field monitor and streaming device.

The frame itself is actually the antenna and amplifier since it's intended to be used on professional broadcasting rigs

2) A micro HDMI port is 2.8mm thick. More than thin enough to fit on any normal sized phone. If they needed space for a daughter board, they clearly have more than enough room in that 6.5 inch phone with that 4000mAh battery. Any lack of room is a fault caused by Sony engineers. Other companies fit entire pop up camera systems in their phones.
3) That's not an excuse. A $1500 markup for an added port is absolute absurd, especially when it's this poorly designed. How niche the market is means nothing whatsoever, it's niche with good reason.
