JdRDMS, 27 Oct 2021“How many times am I going to have to say this?” How ironic... moreFalse. Not being able to type the topic does mean you don't understand the topic. I can't believe I have to argue with you on this.
And I said the 13 Pro Max cameras are overrated. They are. I mean you literally just said "It’s able to compete at with the best, especially in video" because the only area where they can compete with the best is in video. Though even in that department your options are limited. You can't shoot in 8K.

I have the Sony Xperia 1 III and it is close but ..
The most important for me is the tel / internet, screen (large) and audio part.
There it does not change and for 95% of people the photo of 5 III and 1 III are sufficient.
If I take it there will always be a lag, wanting the 1 IV when, maybe the Pro-I 2 would follow (?).
On the other hand, I will take the Sony WF1000XM4 or Panasonic EAH-AZ70W headphones (No more headphones delivered)
On the Japanese site we can read this:
The speaker structure of the Xperia PRO-I and Xperia 1 III is different.
==
In Japan the Sharp Aquos R6 is somewhat of the same ilk.

WhenNokia3310, 28 Oct 2021Back on the topic of the recently announced Pro-I... On ... moreAnd let's not forget those "108 MP" phone camera aren't truly 108 Megapixels. You see, the color filter above the 108 MP sensor is only equivalent to a 12 MP regular Bayer sensor. This is why they pixel-bin to 12MP, since you are getting that exact resolution from the filter. This means all those extra megapixels are really just there for noise reduction.

Amazing Phone, breakthrough of the year...its not an easy task putting a large 1 inch type sensor on the phone, and keeping it slim at that. No ugly camera module covering half the back, no notch and cutouts...Well done Sony!

Back on the topic of the recently announced Pro-I...
On first instance, I was curious on the spec because as a photographer, I had been considering the Xperia 1iii. You see, personally speaking - having a decent "out of the kit" camera/phone to shoot with is actually something a lot of true photographers crave. I currently have a Huawei P40 Pro as my go to and love the fact that they have their full "Pro" or manual mode (a must for any photographer, be that film, DSLR, Mirrorless or phone based). Great for shooting and editing whilst in the field without carrying excess kit in say a day sack/bag.
Now, the Pro-I could have a slightly better f stop for some of those low light shots. Lets say, when shooting a band at a gig or exploring caves to really show off some awesome volcanic tubes and so on. But the 2.4micron definitely brings an awesome trade off in the main Zeiss camera. Sony really are marketing this as a hybrid DSLR/Mirrorless/Camera...or "The Camera" as they like to say in the launch video. The fact it has 2.4micron in each pixel certainly will mean for some incredible shots on a phone; and importantly with zero pixel binning. Those RAW files, when using something like Ps Lr (Photoshop Lightroom) or their native software, in camera are going to be great to work with. All this before even taking the images to a larger monitor for inspection and a final edit.
It seems then that the Sony Pro-I is going to be not quite a full replacement for an actual DSLR/Mirrorless but a very handy tool for photographers who spend a lot of time in the field. Street Photographers, Photojournalists, Vloggers, Travel Photographers and suchlike will certainly welcome this to their set up. I can even see some Nikon and Canon users drooling slightly in admiration for Sony launching this camera (and smartphone) for their loyal brand users. I think we'll see some of them taking a punt on using the Pro-I as well. This would be a big win for Sony in the camera game, bringing over some from Canon/Nikon.
As an owner of an Alpha series camera, I have to say that some on here really know very little about how to achieve some great image quality. Megapixels or is that mega pixels (hell I don't care and I'm not getting into a t!t for tat debate with some who may still be cr*pping yellow) are not the be all and end all. For eg, I could have a 108MP camera...but that's not good if I'm getting sub 1 micron pixel size AND a sensor that is say 1/4". It just really won't deliver anything. A great analogy might be saying to a three toed sloth "here man, wear these socks with 10 toes"....you get me? It's just unnecessary. But ok, let's say that you have the 100MP camera, full frame sensor (never happening in a phone camera anytime yet) and something like 4 micron pixel size...awesome...you got all that tech...go you...but wait a minute...Do you work for an advertising agency? Do you freelance for a marketing company? Do you have to print images in a size larger than A0 on a regular basis?
You all might be fed up now but my point here is, to stop trying to get sold this idea of d*ck waving/measuring that has emerged via phones (and cameras) with huge MPs. Even with the perfect storm of tech and the top of top ends, even most pro photographers aren't going to need that much tech. It really is overkill. Like people who buy a Lamborghini (other cars are available), there's clearly something else missing in their life *ahem* and you're never ever going to be able to use it to it's full potential (unless of course you either own a race circuit or pay for race days but again, it's limited use).
So back to the Pro-I, my main point is that absolutely this phone is not going to be for the average user but from a pure photography POV, me personally? I'm really excited to see where they go with this generation of device. Is c£1.8k/€2k/$2.3k (for the full kit) quite pricey? Probably a tad, there are some minor tech advantages that could be included. Like for example it probably deserved a 5k mAh battery as standard and a 60w charger as standard would be nice too instead of 30w (although if we're talking just phones, at least this flagship actually comes with a charger); maybe a case would've been a nice touch too. I guess we still have a little time so if Sony see any sense then in the couple of months before launch, maybe these things could be added/integrated.
I have no issues on the hybrid memory/sim. With 512gb internal I can probably make use of either a cloud based service if need be or to solve the "travel" issue in regards to swapping sims. Before I travel, I could transfer a ton of data onto an Micro SD in the phone, take that out and leave at home and pop in my sim for when abroad. This will mean I've got a chunk of space in the phone and I don't have to worry about swapping sims out whilst away. Having said that, my carrier/contract covers a huge chunk of countries in terms of using my data when abroad as well as an ample bunch of minutes and texts included in "World Zones" etc. But with the advent of VOIP and Messenger apps, and many accomodation having free wifi, this really is not an issue for keeping in contact whilst away via most methods of comms. In some ways, a dual sim slot is becoming outdated, so I'm totally fine with a hybrid SIM/Micro SD (nut then I'm using a Huawei atm so I've been used to the NM/Nano hybrid for a couple years now. Obviously, not every country is as fortunate to have such great international roaming deals so the example I gave above about transferring your stuff to a Micro SD before travelling will probably be your best workaround if opting for a device like this. We also have to remember that an SD slot is quite the luxury (hybrid or not) these days because nearly every major flagship has internal memory only (granted some will offer 1TB). I still find that odd but I'm probably speaking as a photographer because we love to have things we can store on removable storage (we can be a bit precious about our work), yet when it comes to filing...hmmm well I can only speak for myself
**must do better, those images from Madeira 2016 aren't going to organise and shortlist themselves into Portuguese Tourism Magazine**
Anyway, I've likely rambled on a fair bit so I'll conclude with this final bit on megapixels because it relates to the Pro-I. I have a very trusty but old Alpha DSLR amongst several other shinier ones. But it's my go to camera for everyday shooting. Why? Because whilst it only has 10.2MP and is now a 13yr old camera, but it has an APS-C sensor which is only one down from full frame in many new and very expensive cameras. If we disregard "medium format" which tends to be in the top end pro level cameras, the APS-C sensor is incredible in a camera well over a decade old. Add to that it has a pixel size of around 6microns. It's my trusty old go to camera for a reason, I know it isn't the best camera by a long stretch but I've produced some incredible results with it and I love pushing it to it's limits too. There's a lot of fun to be had in that alone - much rather than something doing all the work for you.
To finally sign off, I'd say when buying a smartphone for camera reasons, don't be quick to disregard a phone with "just a 12MP camera". After all, around 8MP equates to 4K which really brings home perspective that we're being sold a load of extra rope for no real reason. When it comes to printing images (important for me, maybe not for so many), 300ppi (dpi if you prefer) is about as many you need for a sharp, magazine level quality image that the human eye can see. So if I print out my regular large image at 8x12 (inches), this equates to about 8/9MP and so I'll have a rich image that is as good as 4K. If I go to something larger like an A2 size print (roughly 16x24 inch), this equates to about 32MP to maintain 4K quality but even at 16MP printing at that size my image would still be very similar to a HD (1080p) quality, even if the dpi would have dropped to about 250. Ok, not pro level but certainly still good enough in your home. In any case, many of you aren't going to be printing random snaps at A2 size so again, even in these modest enlargements, they're likely to not be needed.
When it all comes down to it, and the more I think about it...this feels to me like the Pro-I and Sony are being very real and honest about their phone camera tech. No d*ck waving, just simple honest camera capabilities that when you apply it to real world use is actually enough for today AND for tomorrow. For me, shooting with the Pro-I main camera at 12MP would give my best selling size prints (8x12/A4) something at around just over 6K quality. Which is actually way more than I would realistically need. I think we've become slightly obsessed with MPs number rather than what the capability of what is actually needed for a good quality image.
If the Pro-I produces something close to my trusty old alpha, then I may put that down and be heading out more often with "just a 12MP camera phone". I get Sony. If they were to market a slightly lower grade model then maybe more people would "get" Sony too but right now, it's a yes for me :)

Sony needs to drop Xperia brand already. They messed up the sequence so bad, all Sony phones are like dysfunctional family now, not knowing their elders, neither do I.
Samsung Galaxy lineup. You can exactly tell which phone has a upper hand by just looking at the number.
Plus, just about anyone I know would call me airhead if i spend that kinda money on a Sony.

Sony is quality yes but at what price.
Xiaomi does same tricks for 1/3 less.
By the way most people swap their phones every 2 years and any android phone looses 75% value when your warranty wears off.

JdRDMS, 27 Oct 2021“How many times am I going to have to say this?” How ironic... moreIt's sad to watch at this point, he does this quite frequently. He acts all sophisticated with proper spelling and grammar and uses more complex terminology to sound like he's making a point. This is a tech site with international user base, there is no way someone can be so dense into thinking that everyone will not make typos or grammar mistakes, they happen to me sometimes when I'm typing at work and don't pay attention.
Regardless he doesn't actually have an argument and will probably stick to the typo again, or maybe we'll see him actually respond to the initial argument, who knows.
Based on his comments, I can assume he thinks more MP = better camera, but we've seen it from Apple and Google that it's not always the case.

joe nodden, 27 Oct 2021Once again, I understand what he was trying to say, but the... more“How many times am I going to have to say this?” How ironic.
You can say them as many times as you want, they’ll never become any less stupid.
If someone can’t spell something properly, that doesn’t mean they don’t understand the topic. Grammar/spelling efficiency does not correlate to comprehension. How dense do you have to be to not understand that?
And yes, you bring up another point, but if that point is wrong, that’s even worse than just bashing typos. The fact of the matter is that the iPhone 13 series has very good cameras. It’s able to compete at with the best, especially in video. The 12MP resolution does not make them bad cameras, as there’s more to photo taking than pixel count (this also refutes your idiotic first post on this section).
You repeating the same exact (really stupid) things, we prove it wrong, and then act like we’re the dense ones when we don’t switch to your side when you say it again. The only dense one here is you. The thought process of your posts in this section is literally “well maybe if I say it enough times they’ll finally agree.” Every post you make, you make yourself look worse and worse. You clearly have no actual arguments outside of typos and false points, and that becomes more and more certain with every post. So please stop and get some actual valid points before you criticize something.
