I'm almost going mad looking for my next "budget" phone. I'm currently choosing between a Moto G5 Plus, either an iPhone 6 or 6S and the X Compact.
I'm very aware the X Compact has no water resistance but does anyone know if the actual body/build quality is safe for those odd accidental glass of water spills, dunking in the sink or exposure with light rain for few seconds?

The chance to have updates for the iPhone is much higher with Apple, than Android phones. On the other side this Sony is slightly cheaper than the SE.

Martin, 14 Apr 2017People, pls help me choose iphone se or xperia x compact, I... moreFor performance watch this:

X compact has better main and front cameras, but se might be better in low light.
SE is slightly more expensive and doesn't have sd support.
Both are solid choices if you're impartial to os.

Nimallica, 11 Apr 2017PLEASE HELPP!!!!!!! I have Xperia X Compact with Nougat 7.... moreI get serious slow downs in the top battery stamina level.
And a bit of stutter in balanced mode, seems to be a limit on the gpu as its a framerate dip when switching apps rather than lagging.
I keep mine in performance stamina mode, but that behaviour sounds normal in the other settings.

Anonymous, 12 Apr 2017I doubt that it has to do with the app you use, I think it ... morei had not this problem with previous version of telegram. before and currently i dont have this problems with all other apps such as whatsapp, .... all windows tasking and web surfing with motion graphics and all things are perfectly same as before even when i use high level of power saving. the problem is only only with telegram version 3.18.1 the funniest thing is when once i upgraded telegram to the 3.18 all older versions which i installed have the same problem!!!
i dont know but maybe once i installed newest version for first time it changed something in my processing method...im really confused!

Sony has been very good about providing updates and security patches to the x compact - more than any other android I've owned.

Nimallica, 11 Apr 2017PLEASE HELPP!!!!!!! I have Xperia X Compact with Nougat 7.... moreI doubt that it has to do with the app you use, I think it is at fault Android 7 and you may try to revert to Android 6. Based on your explanations the blur is related to the processing speed, being slow when the power save is on. That means that the image rendering is using main processors less when the power save is on and the system cannot keep up with the task loads. Probably, on Android 7 the power save is more aggressive than on 6 or the system with Android 7 consumes for its inner kernel tasks more power in priority mode and the apps get less, this is common with all updates, the kernel takes more and more and the user apps less and less until your apps crawl and you run to buy a new expensive phone.

                      PLEASE HELPP!!!!!!!
I have Xperia X Compact with Nougat 7.0 for a bout 3 months and i have updated latest patch updates too. since i bought the phone i was using latest version of Telegram on this phone (i dont remember what version it was but im sure it was not 3.18.1) and it was working very smooth and clear and i could switch between chat windows very very smooth even when stamina option was in very restricted mode. But since i updated my telegram to newest version 3.18.1 when i switch between chat windows i see a lag or something like slow motion effect and text appears to blur or something like this which bothers the eye when watching changing windows. this problem is very very serious when the stamina is set on very restricted. when stamina is on medium level the lags are less and when the stamina is on very light level the lags dont appear!!! Whereas i never had this problem before upgrading to 3.18.1 with all level of my stamina mode.
on the other hand i tried many old versions of telegram but the problem still appears with all that old versions also. i cleared cache file too and it was not helpful.
Please help me with that because i really care to use sony stamina mode to save my battery and im really satisfied with stamina levels specially with heavy mode.
Im really waiting to hear from you guys.

One month later I am very happy with this phone. I cannot stop all Sony crapware but I'll root it one day.
Not a single scratch on the screen using it in pocket without any front protection. Contacts app is better at Samsung but this one handle imports better. It aldo got a bit warm sometimes. But overall a very good phone, basically the only new Android compact on the market.

You'll have to ask your network.

Surficial, 06 Apr 2017Found this about the xz: https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/... moreTrue, it is a bug. I do not know if it is in firmware, I mean low level software, drivers or it is in hardware. If it is in hardware, we lose the hope to ever be fixed. Unfortunately even if we turn off the ambient sensor from settings we get the proximity LED blinking when there is data transfer over mobile network. I wish SONY to recognize they do not have good QA in Thailand where the phone is manufactured and make corrections. The myth and slogans that it does not matter where the stuff is made proves to be the new failed policy. Keeping quiet about issues will guaranty the customer quit for other brands.

Proximity sensor and ambient light sensor use the same bit of hardware, so it's a bug when the ambient light sensor is of. Shouldn't be on then.
Onscreen buttons are much brighter at night than that sensor on my x compact.

I am disappointed that ... moreAny app that involves motion or talking (Voxer, Skype, WhatsApp certain games etc) can activate the proximity sensor and keep it on. A lot of those apps start on boot and never go away. Close them one at a time, or consider uninstalling suspect apps temporarily.

For hardwar test you can install Elixer2 from the play store (for free).
