Because Z series is dead it doesn't mean X performance is their new flagship! Go on official SONY website and you will see that Xperia Z5 Premium is their current flagship and it will stay like that until next one is announced and that almost always happens at IFA.
Also does it make sense for you that company makes flagship device but not to officially announce it? Since SONY executives were clear on MWC that X series is new mid-range lineup and official SONY video on YT for Xperia X Performance points that out.
So stop jumping to your baseless conclusions.

Of which mobile is down to 3.2 billion from about 3.6 billion $ now ( that is not loss but less device production result), with net profit of 200 million $ in q3 of 2015., thats before z5...
They are down to 30 mill devices sold in 2016., but with best per device earning, should be quite profitable in mobile

Sony might sell or retire it in the next couple of years. Also, X Performance IS a flagship device, like Sony said, there won't be any more Z series phones. And the specs are all official, look on Sony's website, this phone won't record 4K and won't have FM radio and so on.

Anonymous, 26 Mar 2016Why the downgrade in screen size with the sub-par 68% scree... moreAnswer to all your questions is simple : X Performance is not a flagship device (Sony will announce their next flagship at IFA ) and secondly numbers don't mean sh#t when comes to real life performance if you don't understand how the hardware actually works.
3gb of RAM is actually bigger amount of RAM then 4gb of RAM on S7 and also 2700 mah battery is much bigger than 3000mah battery on S7.
WHY?
it's simply because:
Since S7 uses gimmicky 2K-QHD screen that can't offer any advantage over FHD unless it's 4K-UHD. For every app and system UI GPU in S7 will consume more RAM memory (reason why Z5c with 2gb of ram and 720p outperforms Z5 with 3gb of ram that uses 1080p) .
Also more strain on GPU (because of QHD screen) means more heat that will cause performance drop and battery drain .
Sony possess Qnovo battery tech that means faster charging and up to 40% more battery life than on standard lithium battery in S7 and not only that but at least 800 recharge cycles versus 300-400 recharge cycles that S7 battery has.
As long that joke touchwiz is there even 6 gig of RAM wont be enough for Samsung + their well known RAM management issues.....kinda sad really.
OIS is inferior to DIS on smartphones.just look at the conclusion of DXOMARK that is saying Z5 has stabilization which is far ahead of competition. and take a look on YT how crazy stabilization is on Z5 actually is.
specs are not confirmed so I doubt that there wont be 4K recording and FM radio (even Sony midranger form last year has it xperia M5) but who knows we will see once device is out.

Furth... moreExcell in camera? It's a Sony, it won't because of the poor optics, lack of OIS, low ISO performance due to high pixel density and poor software optimisation.
Sound? Only in speakers I guess. Sony is no longer the leader here, Samsung, LG, HTC are all better.
Build quality? Weren't Xperia phones the ones that cracked by themselves?
Screen quality? No way, Galaxy S7 has the best screen on the market, period. If you prefer better whites, you get any other phone with a good IPS screen (LG G5, Xiaomi Mi5, iPhone 6S and so on)
UI responsivness? We'll see, but with 3GB of RAM I highly doubt it will be better than the mentioned devices, all of which have 4GB.
Baterry life is a joke, 2700mAh, this thing won't have more than 80h. It should be better than the G5 with 2800mAh, but it won't be better than the S7 (Exynos version) or the Mi5 (which has 92h with its 3000mAh battery).
And conectivity? You're blind, my friend. G5 and Mi5 have infrared, FM radio, type-C connector and so on.
Mi5 is nowhere near the X Performance concerning popularity, yet it's a far better phone. Like I said, I was a Sony fan while they actually made better phones than the competition, but they're not doing that anymore. I think Sony's fans are worse than Apple's or Samsung's.
