I rather buy the Sony Xperia Performance or the Xperia XZ than buying the XA1. The price is close enough but the specs differ. Fyi, I'm using the Xperia X Performance and it's running smoothly with the Andeoid Nougat 7.1.1 update. Cheers

Very nice to look but in working horrible, not a reliable instrument

      Why Mediatek P20?
      They could give SOC SD625
SONY has already in flop right now,
I think they should stop producing smartphones & start listening
      (Russ - " What They Want? ")
Or producing smartphones like they did as Z to Z3,
      They Just spoiled that series.

The only saving grace i see for the X Compact is as you said it is secretly waterproof, has a better camera than the XA1.
          Comments?

T12, 06 May 2017I chose this phone for its content. I do not choose phones ... moreOnly problem one might encounter is the single speaker at the bottom which might be weak/tinny to some especially when you are on a public bus or a crowded street. Another thing is having no water resistance for those real life situations (such as an accidental spill of water or using in light rain). And the screen size could be bigger too.

AnonD-481725, 06 May 2017Don't bother your head, just buy the x compact, it is bette... moreIn what way that the X Compact is better than the newwer XA1? The SoC/processor of the latter trashes the former in comparison.

T12, 06 May 2017X compact is (like iPhone with 4.7 screen) a smaller phone,... moreNever been a fan of Huawei/Honor phones as they are only about style. I hate their EMUI and it feels like with one fall to the ground or dropped in the sink the phone will just stop working. I agree the A5 2017 is expensive for its specs so may remove it from my list. I cannot check out the Moto G5 Plus "in person" as it is not available on the high street to try on. I feel the X Compact is just a tad small for my hands and a phone with 5-inch and above would be ideal. hence my questions here about the 4 phones so I can make an informed decision.

I chose this phone for its content. I do not choose phones by manufacturers. At the moment this is best phone in its price range (very unusual for sony). This phone has no bad points. I'm using it for 3 days now. Battery life is great, not excellent, but great. It's like you would use a snapdragon 820 with 3000mAh. Also I need to point out that it looks great. Those bezels on top and bottom are as big as on any other phone. It's just an optical illusion because it has no side bezels. Highly recommended.

Besides being more pocket friendly. But it is way more expensive, so... It has a 28nm processor consuming a lot of energy and overheating. It would need a bigger battery to match XA1 battery life... P20 with 2300mAh is better than S650 with 2700mAh.

Great for work or email checking, not so great for web browsing or video watching. It has a more potent processor, but energy not efficient, meaning the battery would last less then with xperia XA1. All other specs are more or less the same. G5 PLUS? You need to check this phone in live, as it looks awful. Great specs, bigger bezels, it looks really odd... You need to check this phones in person. A5 2017 same specs as Motorola, great screen, way to expensive, not in the same price group. A5 and X compact are way to expensive phones. You should check also Huawei P10 lite.

I'm interested with the XA1 but have some tech questions:
                                      1. Is the storage the newer eMMC 5.1?
                                      2. Does it actually support the faster Cat-6 4G LTE in Europe?
                                      3. Are the speakers located in the front (as videos and photos show) or at the bottom? And how loud is it?
                                      4. True the USB Type-C is the slower 2.0 standard?
                                      5. True the RAM is only DDR3 and not DDR4?
                                      6. True the rear-facing camera is based off or came from the Z5? But does it have some upgrades to it?
                                      7. Any blue light filter feature?
                                      Advice please?

All of a sudden I got four choices: Xperia XA1, X Compact, Moto G5 Plus & the Galaxy A5 2017. Made some research and based on their processor (and RAM) alone the Xperia XA1 obliterates all the other phones mentioned. But my question is...If we are talking about battery life (w/ respect to software optimization, being near stock Android & one that would just last the whole full day), camera quality (w/ respect to balanced sharpness, great contrast, natural colours, above average low-light photos & some form of image stabilisation), Updates (w/ respect to early or quicker software updates, bug fixes, security & maintenance updates) & speaker sound & loudness (w/ respect to being able to hear when you are on the bus or walking in a semi-crowded street). Love to hear your thoughts, comments & advice please. Cheers.
