I think they're might be pressure from google as well, or sim free phones should come with it.

I am all for free markets, but breaking up Verizon like what happened to Ma Bell back in the 70's would not break my heart. So tired of their monopoly over such a large segement of the cell phone market here in the US.

Another great phone with the FM radio cruelly ripped out for no good reason. I'll stick with the X Compact at less than half the price.

I understand that there is no CDMA network to fall back on if out of LTE coverage, but checking (googling) the LTE bands, 2, 4, 13 (which are also Verizon's) are supported.

If Sony made a CDMA version, even if it was only unlocked, I would buy this phone in an o stant. So sick of Verizon's lousy selection of monster screen phablets posing as phones. I want something pocketable that still has some horsepower when needed. This Sony design fits my requirements perfectly.
And no, I will not buy an iPhone.

Protected with ugly thick cases, but yea its important that the phone is less than 8 mm thick, coz with case you have 10mm. A phone is still a tool for communication and information. Unfortunately not for most of the people anymore. My Lady broke her s7 edge glass even with case, just waiting how long the s8+ will last. I'm definitely buying the xz1c its small and powerful and durable. For entertainment I have a tablet. And yes I have big hands but small pockets. Once I had a z3c, was stolen, but the xz1c is the next good Sony for me. cheers

xz1 compact is a practical phone. people bitching about screen size, low resolution, bezel. this is still an HD resolution in 4.5'' screen and i like bezel on my smartphone because i'm still handling that phone with my hand,i need a solid firm grip. i also like a little assurance if i drop my phone, it still survive.i don't mind dent in the chasis but bezel less design, i don't know it might survive i just don't have the courage to drop it just to test it,sure people would argue just put a case on it.so you preaching about beautiful design and yet you put your beautiful phone on an ugly case, what's the point having beautiful design,this is not a paper weight. and i still have laptop and tv. if i want to consume media entertainment i'm using that device,not my phone. 4k in 6'' screen if that's your thing, go ahead but not everyone like watching video in 6'' screen. you could put 8k resolution on that still it's a 6'' screen unless you want to to carry 15'' screen smartphone. oo wait that's called laptop

The most unreasonable shortcoming is the lack of full hd resolution. Bigger resolution = lower autonomy and less perfomance. XZ1 has full hd, but it endurance rating 82h versus 108h in compact.
