If you want superb performance go for regular XZ2 not Premium one.

This phone ticks all the right boxes apart from the screen, ugly design and extreme bulkiness. The design is a subjective matter but why would you need a 4K display on 5.8". The jump from 480p and 720p to 1080p was massive, 1080p to 1440p was not as huge but still noticeable. And there is the fact that it's running in 1080p mode all the time like the all the other Premiums. A 1080p or 1440p AMOLED would be perfect with usable ambient display and normal colours most noticeably blacks. Size is perfect, basically slightly bigger that Galaxy Note.
There's also the concern of the phone's bulkiness. It weighs a lot, that can somewhat be forgiven and you can get used to it. But damn is this phone thick. If you slap a proper case on it you'll have problems fitting it in your pants unless you wear cargo pants all the time. And the space is hardly capitalized properly with the measly 3500mAh battery even though Huawei and some other companies can somehow fit a unit 500mAh bigger in a smaller phone.

I'm assuming that this is gonna run stock Android on it? How is that gonna translate to battery life, with a 4K, IPS LCD display, instead on an AMOLED? How is the audio on Sony phones, through a headset? Is it comparable to the LG V30's quad DAC, or HTC BoomSound? I'm coming from a Nexus 6P, so I don't know if I want another boring stock phone.

Sony should quit the mobile department. Just quit it. Of you can't go bezelless in 2018, you can't go bezelless ever. Period. This is an ugly and backdated looking phone no matter how good the internals are.

The phone looks more uglier than XZ2.. XZ2 Compact is the only new flagship from Sony which is beautiful.
