They are to reduce bezels sizes by negating the need for a phsyical home button. This phone achieves the opposite of all. It still has thick bezels, no hardware home screen button, is physically larger and has a battery that is no bigger than most and smaller than some others. Sorry but that is an ergonoic disaster.

A few things that makes this phone a failure:
1. xz premium is 8mm thick and this is 12mm. with less feature (no 3.5mm), nobody cares abt dynamic vibration
2. sony camera dont need duo camera setup, it need good image processing and OIS
3. right after moving to 18:9 in xz2 and xz2 compact, you give us 16:9 with huge ass bezels again? wtf is wrong with the decision making in this company?
I frankly like the old xz lines better. classy square phones with neat design language, even if its 16:9

Just because it is for you, does not mean it is for everyone else and we are entitiled to have opinons that dont macth your's. No need to shout. That won't make the rest of us any more or less interested in it i'm afraid.

Stupid is a 16:9 phone that still has silly unnecessary bezels but no physical home button either and is actually taller than it's 18.5:9 counterparts. That is a valid criticism.

It also means the phone is more likely to get damaged if dropped. It would not be so bad if the battery was at least larger but it isn't!

I've held monster phones, like Mi max 2 (that's 85mm wide) and it weighs 208 grams. While I agree the 16:9 is better for typing. It's still annoying to hold something over 200g.
I literally fastened the Max 2's ring accessory to a wrist belt to avoid it being broken when taking selfies. The Max 2 is not my phone. It was my friend's.

Are the dimentions right? 158 mm tall?? It is almost 1 cm taller than my S8. No offence, but this is NOT good! It can not fit comfortably in many pockets, including mine, and it has 230 g?? :O

I like sony's LCDs and I like this phone hasn't got OLED screen - sony produce very good LCDs, OLED would make phones up to 150 eu more expensive and normal user won't recognise different between OLED and sony's last LCD.

that is why XZ2 wasn't good
thy were preparing for a this
beast
finally increaseing the adaptor width (F/number) returning the old selfe camera and the old school 16:9 4K screen yes it is wide but 18:9 is just to much pixels for 4Ks
the only problems are
EXTREMELY heavy and bulky due to the dusl glass sandwich design and 16:9 is wide (but justified)
no OIS BUT they COULD have a reason for not adding it in the last 3 years
LCD is old school and there is no reason to dump the OLED screens (just like OIS and F/2.0)
we will see a HILL of a fight between XZ2 PREMIUM and the S9+

What is with Sony devices and footprint?
Huawei devices pack more hardware for half the footprint... Are Sony engineers clueless?
In years before they hid their cluelessness in "design language". Nowadays their design suck too (what is with the hump?) so no justification remains. They just can't make a compact phone even if their life was depnded on it ... even their "compact" phone is so thick and big volumetrically that makes everything else seem dinky...
