Anonymous, 15 Feb 2018I'm glad that you have read up all about VR technology and ... moreWell, I always understood it...
Just some people here seem not to understand, and claim Xperias are uncapable of it, which is utter nonsense.
In fact, I bought one googled mobile headset with 102 degree lenses for as cheap as 12 euros, a week ago, just to try it out.
My X Perfomance runs these Cardboard VR apps, videos and games just fine and well.
I can even run Daydream suite with my X Performance coupled with this headset, and with controller emulated on another older phone. I tested it, visually its exactly the same experience as with Cardboard suite. It does not require oled screen, it just prefers it.
But these games are pretty basic looking, mobile SoCs dont allow for much of quality 3D VR graphics.
360 Video is good, for ex, VeerVR suite offers VR videos in 4K so people can enjoy them on 4k screens of XZ Premium in great quality.
I believe future of mobile VR lies in more quality 3D game streaming on at least 4k screens and from devices like PS4, and 5g connections, or standalone VR headsets with streaming capabilities.
Todays mobile tech is just pretty basic for VR gaming, good enough for VR video and apps.

To be honest, I don't really care for the Camera, I'm only buying this phone because its Sony's 2017 Flagship and price has significantly went down. Also, buying this for the Front Firing Speakers and the display. And besides, this phone is promised to get Android P this year.

dragonov, 12 Feb 2018thank you, but you seem to know very little about cameras. ... morePixel size also important. Google Pixel which has f/2.0 but still scores incredible on captured pictures which I think maybe pixel size (1.55μm) helps on capture detailed more lights on lowlight. But again, it's undeniable that software is the most important for image processing like managing sharpness, lower artifacts sharpening, noise reduction, high-contrast scenes, colour correction and much more.

xXENDER FREAKXx, 12 Feb 2018Clearly there are a lot of things that the people working f... morethank you, but you seem to know very little about cameras.
First, Sony do not make DSLR's. They are the kings of the MIRRORLESS system, the Alpha series.
Second, ois is important for still shots at night where minor shakes exacerbate the already noisy, long exposed shot.
Three, and this is very important, a 1/2.3 sensor is bigger than 1/2.6 or 1/3. It is math here man, you seem to know very little about math. 1/1=1 which is the biggest value. 1/5= 0.2 which is a smaller value.
Pixel size is negligible on such small sensors. Yes bigger pixels are better but this has proven very insignificant on small sensors, look at htc M7/8, which claimed the bigger pixels will preform better in low light but the result was catastrophic.
The key factors for success are the F and the ois for night photography.

dragonov, 12 Feb 2018ok a lot of ppl are bashing the xzp camera in low light, Y... moreClearly there are a lot of things that the people working for Sony think are wrong. The aperture, they should put at least a F1.8, the right spot for not overexposing photos and not having very dark photos in low-light, but I think OIS isn't needed, since videos have EIS, plus if they improve their software by putting more effort which I believe they can since they make excellent DSLR cameras, then OIS wouldn't be needed. And there are 2 more things I realized that affects their photo quality, the sensor size and the pixel size. The sensor size for their own custom Exmor RS sensors made only for their own smartphones is only 1/2.3", which is relatively is quite small when comparing to other high-end flagships since those sensor size ranges from 1/2.4" to 1/2.9". Why am I pointing it out? Because bigger sensors can result in better quality photos, if they want high MP count then they should focus on this. It seems like they are staying at 1/2.3" for their flagships, and they are probably going to do so for their future sensors for Sony high-end flagships, so another factor they should think is the pixel size. Another similar story to their own custom Exmor RS made for their own smartphones, pixel size is(again) relatively small, coming at 1.22μm , while others have at least 1.4μm pixel size. But if they are not releasing new ones for their smartphones and going to use their current ones, then the only way to improve the low-light photos is the camera software. In conclusion, even though there are a lot of factors that make up a excellent camera, the most important thing that makes up most for the camera, is the software

ok a lot of ppl are bashing the xzp camera in low light,
Yes it is bad in auto mode honestly,
why? aperture is 2.0 and there is no ois
that's why s8 performs better.
now, if you can hold you phone steady, the Sony can get you much better results, say 0.5 second or longer.
impractical for snaps but you can work sthg out.

the xzp main camera is wonderful except in low light, and even in this regards you can work sthg out in manual mode to get wonderful results.
the design is subjective, but the nokia's is boring while the xzp's is elegant yet dated, like a classic car from the 1960s.
Stereo speakers, 4k display, 960 fps slo mo,
no, the xperia is a safer buy

I moved from the horrible xperia xz to this one. initial impressions? Great build quality, but I don't understand why we need 4k, to my eyes the 1440 looked the same like 2160 on youtube.
I am yet to find out how long the battery lasts. But initial performance is promising.
The performance is class leading, I really enjoy it.
The sound is low and I am not happy.
The bezels, meh, I don't mind them. The device is elegant!
Camera is excellent in daytime, horrible at night and feels it's from 2007. with long exposure of 0.5 or up, the image improves a lot, but you'll need a tripod.
the device deserves a 7/10.
