A split second difference in opening apps is negligible and hardly tells the overall performance of the device. The S8 shines and outclasses every smartphone in handling heavy and graphics extensive apps and transmitting/importing/exporting large amounts of data due to its superior hardware. The Pixel is also outclassed by other smartphones in speed test videos but that doesn't mean it is a slow phone.
Sony does not do anything but to optimize and update their phones. That's the only thing they do. They don't add any new features except whatever stock Android brings.

Yes, it has a high end storage, but what's the use of it, if it still gets defeated by phones with eMMc storage? They put the latest and best in their S8 but still it's slower than the XZs?

Samsung manufactures nearly all hardware components from the screen, RAM, flash storage to processor chips and even DACs. Everyone just buys from Samsung. Samsung puts the latest and best in their phones. They sell the lower end technologies to others.

The S8's camera is slightly improved from the S7 so it's probably tied or perhaps better now than the Pixel. Sony phones have never made it to the top 10 of the best camera smartphones list. It's not even a competition.

The almost bezel less design is amazing, but still doesn't justify the price tag. And the S8s sold in my country don't get any freebies like a free gear VR, DeX dock (useless), etc. Yes, the AKG earphones are great, but I'm buying the phone, not the headset.
And the price tag of the XZ Premium is still lower than the S8, and that's a great thing. You can't get a phone like the XZp for $600.

Front camera of Xperia ,better than any Samsung. And the same goes for the rear cam. Sammy fans will never admit it, they get defensive and emotional if they see their brand loose ...hahahaha XD what a laugh.

It's widely known that Sony is cost-cutting that's why they managed to gain profits even though their sales are at all-time low. The internals Sony used in thier phones are not latest tech. The Xperia XZ don't use the latest LPDDR4/5 RAM, UFS 2.1 storage unlike the S7. The XZs is basically an XZ with only an upgraded camera.

Everyone who's sending back his S8 is sending it back for another S8 replacement. No one sents back his S8 and buys another phone. Not all S8 units have the same issues. You can replace the S8 multiple times until you get a flawless unit. You cannot do that with Sony phones.

In Europe and here in the Middle East sony in the top 3 selling smartphones at least, so Android lovers are running away from Samsung because of their worse issues.

It is the most expensive smartphone to produce because it has all the best and latest technologies, not to mention it comes with complete accessories in the box including an expensive AKG earbuds. It even ships with freebies like a wireless charging pad, DeX dock or a Gear VR headset. Sony on the other hand is cost-cutting. Except perhaps for the camera, everything inside their phones is last year's technology. Sony phones should not cost more than 600 dollars.

It's just that no one bothers to point them out because no one cares about Sony phones. The US is the biggest smartphone market in the world. Most tech news sites are based there. Americans don't buy Sony phones and neither do tech sites pay much attention about them so naturally whatever issues Sony phones have will never make it to the news. Only RELEVANT phones like Samsung Galaxies and iPhones get heavily scrutinized.

dvven, 29 Apr 2017shamesung spotted If you look into my profile here you will see I've got 2 Sony phones in my favorite devices. I was even considering buying the Xperia XZ. I was choosing between it and the S7. Fortunately, the XZ was pricier at the time than the S7 so I decided to go for the latter. And I was lucky I made the right choice. S7 is miles better than the XZ. I won't even be needing to upgrade to the latest phone soon as the S7 feels so current. It's still better than most phones released so far this year - P10, G6, XZs.
