For me, I would always choose Sony than Samsung. It doesn't mean that though Samsung is more famous now than Sony, the latter will just be forever behind the shadows of the first. Sony used to own Samsung in the mobile category before Samsung launched the Galaxy S2 just to tell you Sammy fans. You even say that Sony stole some of Sammy's idea when in fact Samsung has always been steeling ideas from other OEMs. The first to introduce a music phone to the market is Sony with their WALKMAN line and followed by Nokia with their Express Music line then Sammy then followed with their music phones (F Series) that went on a downfall since the sound wasn't as good as Walkman phones. Now I bet Sony will really end the year with a good fight against Samsung, HTC and LG. 4.6 Million was the figure in 40 days and not to date just to correct those who are saying the Z is not doing well. Xperia Z just went a little behind Samsung, LG and HTC because Xperia Z is one of the first mobile phones to be released with a 1080p screen resolution next to HTC Butterfly. Both phones only use Snapdragon S4 Pro which is still a good and capable chipset but a little behind compared to the newest Snapdragon 600 which the Galaxy S4, Optimus G Pro and One use as their chipsets. The Z was not able to utilize the 600 because the chipset has not been released by the time the Z went out of the market but Sony will make up for it by releasing the Sony Honami and Togari with the latest technology from Sony and with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 under the hood which is gonna be clocked at 2.3 GHz! So Sammy and Apple fans will get more bitter coz of the new bad boy in the smartphone world. Admit it! It won't be forever Samsung's game. You know that it's a cycle, one will always come out after the other so after Honami for sure Sammy might follow the product with another one that will match it.

Got the Xperia Z about 2 weeks ago and loving it. Great phone, looks/feels and is much better phone than S4. And it's not made of recycled plastic (unlike S4):-)

Your analogy is wack anyway, sales figures does not equate to better product and is dependent on other factors such as marketing etc.

When you are travelling you will see Toyota cars almost every where on the road. But you will very rarely see a Ferrari sometimes ones a year. Though you see Ferrari rarely do you call them ew, Ferraris are bad cars or Toyota is better than Ferrari.
In addition Toyota sells approximately 1 million units of cars per year. But Ferrari sells only 6000-7000 units of cars per year. Now see the difference in sales volume. Now tell me please, do you say Toyota is better than Ferrari because Toyota sells more cars than Ferrari.
Sales figure is a quantitative factors, it is not a qualitative factor, in simply in doesn't evaluate a phone in quality wise.
There are different segments in the market such as general customers who will buy a phone without evaluation and exactly buy becbecause of poppopularity or just because of why others buy the same thing and others segment is who purchase the products by proper evaluation with others and make sure it will suites for your expectations.
You are a belongings to the general customer who buy a phone just because of others buy. But not everyone belongs to that category.

from ur needs i think u should keep using the s i really needed i huge refreshing so i bought the z and it was a great upgrade other ways if u think it is not worth the upgrade u shouldn't just wait tell u find something worth ur money

Few days ago I sold my Xperia Z and switched to Xperia S. Today I'm kind of more impressed with last year's flagship. There're few arguments and features that make Xperia S worthier choice.
1. As far as I'm concerned Xperia S has a better screen & size. Perhaps this seems to be a surprise but its LCD has a better viewing angels, pixel density (342 ppi) doesn't seem to be different from Z's 441 ppi. Above all, Z's 5" screen and its size were always too big for me. Very simply, you can actually hold and use Xperia S with ONE hand.
2. Furthemore, Xperia S has better camera. As of ICS upgrade, video recording bitrate increased from 14 mbs to 20 mbs (Z is now behind with 16 mbs) and both video and images have much more details than 13 mpx sensor of Xperia Z. Taking pictures in low light conditions is impossible with Xperia Z, S's sensor makes a huge difference here.
3. Xperia S has a louder speaker.
4. S is much cheaper these days.
5. I reckon 90% of users won't recognize difference between S's and Z's chipset and CPU. The same stands for 3G/4G difference.
6. In a no time, S is supposed to get Jelly Bean which seems to look exactly like the JB on Z while bringing STAMINA mode and perhaps HDR mode.
7. Although Z's memory can be expanded with micro SD, S comes with 32 GB in compare to Z's 16 GB.
8. With Xperia S you get HDMI port and HDMI cable while you should buy Galaxy S2's MHL AV cable to connect Xperia Z to HDTV.
Finally, advantages of xperia Z are to be mentioned.
4G capability, faster (quad core) phone with 2 GB of RAM and its water (and dust) restitance. I'd still not be convinced to return back to Xperia Z.

People are so bored looking at the same phone for a year since S3 launched...
Sammy fans boast that S3 sold 50Mil in all pages~
This is like going to a shopping mall and half of the people there wearing the same design color clothes and using the same phone....
Don't you feel bored looking at it even for a second?
That's why SONY Xperia Z WON in design~
Because it's DIFFERENT...
Not like Sammy~
The design in all phones are the SAME...
The only difference are the sizes and specs~
Can you even differentiate S3 and S4 from far?
Come on~

People nowadays follow trend~
People will follow and buy what other people have...
Majority of people will buy Sammy is because of advertising and features (Gimmicks)~
Some kids will ask their parents to buy because "My friends have it, I want it to compete"...
Last time SONY don't even advertise at all~
Till recently only can see it in newspaper and listen through radio...
But Sammy~
I can see it in newspaper every single day till now since S2 released...
And also~
Sammy willing to buy spaces in Phone Service Provider store and make it 75% of Sammy phones display in the stores...
With that who doesn't know Sammy?
Do you still remember Big Apple and J-Co donuts?
My country Malaysia here was a hit 4 years ago~
People willing to line up in a long queue to buy donuts...
How about now?
They open their shops everyday~
No customer there and workers are so free...
Now I'm just waiting for "Bubble-tea" shops to close down~
They are getting lesser customers day by day because Human Do Get Bored for the same thing...
Trends will fade~
When time comes...
SE was a hit last time with Walkman and Cyber-Shot phones~
People don't even buy Sammy at that time...
My mom bought Sammy last time because it's cheap~
And Sammy display was hell awful...
How about now?
Just accept the truth that Sammy will come down soon if they don't change in design~
Now Sammy gonna change to Sharp display in smartphone to compete with LCD Natural Display...
And SONY HONAMI gonna come out and fight~
With TRILUMINOS display...=]

the xperia z also sold 6.7 millions by the analysts not an official report from sony
the s4 has shipped 10 millions not sold they shipped
for i see the device is filling every mobile sho in my country with countless numbers but the sales isn't that fast
the xperia z got 4202 votes compared to 10 millions total hits and lets say 6.7 million users
that means .00006 or something and by the way lets say 500 of them are just voted with zeros
u need to thin before u start to talk i own the xz yet i didn't vote to it
ur comment just out of the place if u r complaining i would give u an excuse or another fan who brag about his beloved brand making it a god gift even this i can understand but a total useless comment that shows nothing but a shallow way of thinking

S4 with AMOLED tech, and Z only TFT :)
but one think why i choose Z, the music player so awesome, especially if we listen with premium earphone like shure series or sennheiser series, make me speechless

After people fight for the best phone, the more popular, the most wanted or sell between the Xperia Z, HTC One and the Galaxy S4. We finally have same result:
1. Galaxy S4 sold 10 Millions unites best of all.
2. HTC One sold 5 Millions unites 2 times less than the GS4.
3. Xperia Z sold 4.6 Millions unites almost like the HTC One.
At the end the 2 best seller doesn't have the point selling's of Xperia Z the waterproof and dustproof and a the most beautiful design.
Can somebody help to explain why did the Xperia Z didn't sell better than the HTC One and the GS4?
But the funniest thing the Xperia Z get best cotation from customers on GSMarena Design 8.8/ Features 8.8/ Performance 8.8 and 56% Daily interest.
Meaning people are cheating on voting they are favorite devices because it's far to reflect reality. At the same time they down vote other people devices to make theirs the best.
GSMarena is an very good website which is use in my country in the Vodacom shop as phone reference but people are destroying the image of the website by cheating around in favor of their devices. But sadly the result finally put everything in place.

Same as you i have xperia s too and i thought these is the most beautiful(xperia s) phone out there but i still taking a look on the iphone 5s and of course htc one. But after i got these xperia z i never look on other phones again. I really like the display its really cool in my eyes specially when you watching movies.
And the only thing that i can buy sony again if they make exactly same design of xperia z with higher spec and great display. Or maybe same beauty of xperia z.....

I m using my xperia z for two months . It is awesome device , build quality is better than s4 , slim and sleek and powerful phone I ever seen in my life .
My friend is using iPhone 4s but I can say that it is far better than iphone5 .. :-D
Its features are awesome than iPhone
I don't find any problem on it
If anyone thinking about this phone , just get it
