It seems the brand new Xperia Z is suffering from similar problems as the Xperia V, which was only released in December 2012. Is it possible then that either Sony is incapable of producing technically advanced phones that have been checked and work properly, free of bugs and battery problems? It certainly seems so.
Check out the problems with the Xperia V on the following link, particularly the 'Random freeze in Standby' issues (often referred to as 'SOD' or 'Sleep of Death'), for which there is still no solution (finally now confirmed after over a month and a long-term campaign to force SOny to reply to its customers).
If you get no joy from Sony Mobile here then try 'direct messaging' then on the Sony Mobile Facebook page for your own country, and get a refernce number and the name of the person you speak to. Keep a record of all communication with the company.
If that doesn't work and Sony will not refund your money for another sub-standard product then I suggest you send a copy of everything to various Tech and mobile phone magazines and ask themn to take up the case for you. Sony will not do this as they wish to keep problems quiet (on here) and away from the attention of the public and media, so you may have to force their hand! Try things like GSM Arena, CNet, TechCrunch, What Mobile, Mobile Gazette, Mobile Choice, and any others you can find (do a search for 'mobile phones' on Twitter for instance).
Frankly I would insist on your money back if your phone does not work without problems. The Xperia Z is after all a new phone and Sony's flagship. Good luck... I think you are going to need it!

I just got this phone and i have to say, i love it. This is the first Android device i've owned (Apart from a Nexus 7 i bought 2 weeks ago) coming from a i4, the main reason being was because i had hardware and design as first priority. The phone is a great size, and as a lot of people have said, it does not cut into my hands. I have to admit i am not the biggest fan of Android now trying it out, but obviously that has nothing to do with the XZ.

I have a few enquiries though, the WiFi is terrible on this, and i've noticed this on my Nexus 7 as well. Where my i4 would get full 3 bars, i only get 1-3, anyone know what the issue is or how i can fix this?

I also ordered in the Zagg skins for it, for some reason it is labelled as Sony Xperia Z European on the site. Is this different to any other model? I wasn't aware there was a European model, and another region model?

This years flagship device goes to Sony,

HTC One and Samsung S4 can pave way. Can not believe Samsung are still making phones that feels like toys from Poundland. HTC One is a hybrid iphone running android. Guys seriously, own HTC once and you will never go back.

I aint a fanboy I can assure you. Ive been using iphone since 3GS till 4S then I tried out Samsung S3, the most horrible experience. Went back to 4S and then iphone 5 but now I chose this beauty.

Operating with one hand is possible on a 5" screen. I could never do that with a S3 due to its design. I must give hats off to Sony for this. The last Sony phone I owned was a Z5 and that must have been over 10 years ago - with side scroll and fishing game.

Guys if you are an iOS user then deeply explore the OS before you switch, as for android users, this will be the best for the next 12 months for sure.

                                Enjoy!!

After nearly a month of living with my Z.
I got it with 2 pre order bonuses, the wireless sphere box and a wireless bluetooth headset.
I ve replaced my Evo 3D HTC,a late 2011 flagship, bought at early 2012, so it was a major step up for me, double the RAM, double the CPU power, the new GPU generation, twice as good camera, double the screen resolution, the LTE and the NFC bonuses, a much better WoW factor for the chicks, it continues the Android OS, where the Evo 3D left off, and whats very important for me it has proof vs the bane of my old mobile. Air humidity.
It is incredible that my previous phone, suffered from that in less than a year and HTC, or any other company for the same matter, would not cover it with the guarantee (they claim that any kind of water damage falls to the user's fault, regardless if it is caused by air humidity or subversion under water)
Despite the fact that externally and internally the phone had no issues, if the phone's inside humidity indicator shows humidity, the guarantee is voided...
So i was very sceptical about my next phone, i excluded LG and any non reliable Chinese companies, HTC because i knew that the One will be delayed and its body and ultrapixels will bring compromises.
So it was between S4 and Z, the Z was already here and the S4 was rumored to be way to close spec wise to the other flagships, so i went for the Z, couldnt wait for months with a 512 RAM intermediate phone anyways.
And i can say that Z has convinced me and its critics in every possible way.
It is so thin and light, that one can easily get accustomed with it prety fast.
Its blazing fast and its UI is sleek and efficient.
It really oozes of a premioum feel i have never ever encountered before.
The pics it takes have amazing quality, esp at night time, the difference is literally day with night.
I took some pix with S3 and iphone 4S side by side at night and guess what, where the other fans only saw darkness the Z could distnguish shapes and colors in decent levels.
The viewing angle is an exagerated review myth, there is no angle you can hold the phone, that can prevent you of reading the content or colors, the sun legibility is great because of the reduced reflection and thats much more important than viewing things from strange angles just to test your screen.
As for the contrast, i think only the Amoled fans, who are accustomed to it and see any non Amoled screens as washed out whould have issues, during the cartoon games only, not even them at videos, browsing, camera and phone use.
The Z may not have the best numbers on benchmarks, but it makes no compromises where it matters, you can let dozens of apps open in the background while playing the latest and most demanding games and apps out there.

There was a shadow that some devices may suffer from a bug, smth every phones suffers from, even the Galaxy S series and the iphones, but Sony was there to cover that in a record time.

So it does seems to be the real deal for the moment.
This phone is strong and resistant enough to last until the next generation of phones, i hope that when they arrive with their 4 GB of RAM, 3GHZ CPU or what ever, someone will come up with a water resistant device again.
