Overheating:
The Z series of XPERIA is known to be water and dust proof. To make the phone water and dust proof it is made air tight which prevents air flow through it. This causes it to over heat. Even if it get over heated it will never lag or get switched off due to that reason.
Automatically dims:
The auto brightness setting is the reason for that. If you want full brightness all the time set brightness to max and remove auto brightness. This should solve the problem.
Headphone Volume:
There could be problem with headphones. If headphones work better with other gadgets then check the app. SONY Walkman app which is now called Music is one of the best audio apps in play store. This is basic and most probably you have noticed and crossed it, that the device does not allow you to play at full volume as it restricts it to half to make sure that our ears are not damaged on long run. You can easily bypass that restriction. If still you are getting low volume try using equalizer.

Very poor built quality, the phone keeps overheating and automatically dims the sreen that makes it hard to see whats going on. Headphone volume is very quiet even at loud music tracks. Comparing to my old Iphone 4 or HTC ONE M8 the XperiaZ1 sounds like it has no headphone amplifier what so ever! This was a lesson for me, i bought this phone before reading related problems online. Wasted a lot of money and now the only purpose of the phone is to use it as a camera. BTW the camera is the only thing that is proper in the phone but thats not what makes a phone, phone!

I have used this phone since 2014. no single problem found it. my phone performance day by day increasing. Lollipop 5.1 is the best android upgrade for phone. camera still superb better than iPhone 6, Samsung s4,s5.
I am fully satisfied this phone.
Sony's hardware better than iPhone, Samsung.
Sony is the best.

For people who are having problem with battery:
If you guys are having trouble with battery and are using Z1 which has Lollipop in it the only thing you can do is to downgrade the software to Kitkat or even better Jelly Bean. Lollipop on XPERIA Z1 has some major issues like draining of battery and even lagging of phone.
If you are having Jelly Bean or Kitkat as your UI then try using stamina mode which will show a lot of improvement on the battery life. XPERIA STAMINA MODE is one the best software I have seen to extend the battery usage. It nearly cuts down the power usage when on for all the apps except receive calls and messages. If you lock your phone with Stamina Mode on and return in a day to check it out you will find less than 3-5% battery is drained.
Lollipop upgrade is not good:
I have seen a lot o people want to upgrade their XPERIA Z1 UI to Lollipop which is not good. It will cause a lot of trouble like fast battery drain and the phone starts to lag. For small amount of extra features and very few apps which require Lollipop to run I would not upgrade my phone to loose the smooth running.
Nearly all the apps and games I have come through support Jelly Bean or at-least Kitkat then why do you need Lollipop.
Marshmallow upgrade:
There will not be a Marshmallow upgrade for XPERIA Z1 as it is hardly able to satisfy needs of Lollipop and is causing problems it will get worse with Marshmallow upgrade.

Pros: long battery life, quality camera (with additional apps), quality sound (with additional apps), good performance (so far no laggie for 3D games as per 2016)
Cons: bad GPS signal, bad GSM signal, OS update ended-up in lollipop (non critical for now), seamless chrome integration (frequent issues with malwares/viruses)
