The most common misunderstandings about removable batteries:
      1. You can carry a spare
      - Not a good reason, a portable power bank has several advantages and if used frequently a powerbank will make one non removable battery live longer than 10 removable ones.

      2. You can pull the battery if the phone is hanging.
      - Bad reason, you can force a restart by pressing and holding power+vol.up buttons, and Z1Compact even has a restart button hidden beside the usb port.

      3. By having a spare you can fully cycle the batteries (meaning fully discharge one before you replace it with the other)
      - Very wrong, that was true 20 years ago with nickel batteries but li-ion batteries showuld NEVER be cycled, full discharge is damaging the batteries severely, in fact this is why batteries lose more than 20% capacity after only 300 charge/discharge cycles. Always try to charge when the battery reaches 40%, and even better if you try to never charge it to more than 80%. Get a power bank, they cost less than spare batteries and is your battery's best friend for a long and healthy life.

Finally i like to say, or repeat actually: Removable or not, NEVER cycle a battery, never fully discharge, if your battery goes below 20-30% and you cannot charge it is best to turn off the phone until it can be charged to avoid irreversible damage. Remember, every time your battery is almost empty or almost full it is being damaged, stay between 40 and 80% if you plan to keep your phone for a while.

zayn, 29 Mar 2014what's wrong with the non-removable battery? can someone ex... moreRemovable battery has only disadvantages, first of all it (usually) makes a phone less premium, like the mentioned BlackBerry, on the Z10 you can see the line where the body meets the back cover, and it even has a tiny glitch on top and thats bad, it reduces the quality impression of the phone. You dont see this kinda flaws on iPhones and Xperia flagships.

Second, removable makes phones slightly thicker, or like in Samsungs case they dont get thicker but compromises the rigidity. In the same thickness one could have fitted a slightly larger non-removable battery. LG G2 is the perfect example of squeezing in a really big battery that would have been impossible if it were removable.

It plays 1080 videos even better than in a 1080 screen with all the awesome detailing and color richness. All thanks to the 4.3 inch IPS display. Not a single lag for any of the videos I've played.

AnonD-209094, 28 Mar 2014Nice try Sammy boy, but did you honestly think that anyone ... moreOf course, I'm realising now that I'm somewhat brand-focused myself. Though the only reason is that I got used to Sony, and I want a phone to use, not to re-adjust to. After the Xperia M's disappointing (to not say pitiful) camera performance, I was desperately waiting for another Sony under 4.5" to come along, and I really hoped that this one would be it.

Besides, Samsung are far from the only manufacturer who do removable batteries. I wouldn't have an Xperia U now if its battery weren't removable; and the Xperia M's would've been as well. Which is why it makes me even madder that Sony is taking such leaps backwards.

AnonD-209094, 28 Mar 2014Nice try Sammy boy, but did you honestly think that anyone ... moreNot that I care what you or anyone else here thinks. But I am currently using an Xperia U that I wanted to upgrade. I was deciding between a Windows 8 or an Android 4 phone. If I went Android, I would not look at any other brand than Sony because I like their UI and ecosystem best. I love that Samsung stick to removable batteries, but it's not a good enough argument for me to buy one. I requested a quote from my dealer for a Z1 compact with a 2-year contract renewal, and checking GSM Arena was literally the last thing I was about to do before confirming the order.

Making completely and unbased accusations about someone supposedly being biased is a very poor defense and says more about your priorities than mine. I made a statement about an objective, and in my opinion very terrible downside of this phone's concept, a phone I would've otherwise liked very much. You, on the other hand, seem to be terribly focused on brands beyond any other factor.

Do not understand the moaning here about freezes, lags or the neccesity to restart the phone once in a while... Not a single problem of those mentioned occured to me while using it for a month allready.

The thing that gets me is the quick menu after the upgrade from 4.3 to 4.4... Its the opposite of an upgrade, its a downgrade. And the unlocking of the screen now can be more accidental that before bcs the "swipe" orks at any direction on the screen. And i find the new battery status bar really ugly now after the update. Black and white color makes it less understandable without other visual effects.

                          Battery lasts me 2-3 days.

The thing i do not understand is why is it so damn hard to turn the alarm clock off?!?!? If you press by accident at the worng place on the screen its impossible to turn it off... you have to turn the whole phone off to do it... its so frustrating especially at early mornings.

Coz I checked in the Sony... moreI have tested this phone in store and its has a great display, if its not IPS then its something better, very wide viewing angle, colors are impressive, contrast is eyecatching, as high as it gets on any LCD, IPS or not.

If its not IPS then i dont care, its no doubt one of the very best displays on the market, period.

Furthermore, a guy who is a Sony official spokesperson was interviewed at the international launch and he said it is IPS. The video is available somewhere at youtube.

Lasts whole day for me with 50% or more power at the end of the evening. Only moan is the keyboard.
