In reality, even in the world of Televisions, while IPS is an excellent quality of screen, (AM)oLED just surpasses it (generally). Mind you there are some oLED, and some IPS panels that have horrible quality for white balance and black levels.
In the case of the current Mobile Sony IPS panels, and the current Samsung AMOLED, the AMOLED holds it's place as the better screen.
Also, in regards to image processing it's near impossible to say that one company/screen's technique is better, just because of the incredible range and variety of images that can be displayed. Where the Sony's IPS would excel in some, the AMOLED would excel in others.

While other phone manufacturers like SONY devote massive money to make high QUALITY phones, SAMSUNG just concentrates on the QUANTITY. Since my area of Specialization is Image Processing I know the SAMSUNG new color system is a clear propaganda. The technology that you mentioned still is based on the RGB color system, since all pixel colors are derived from the 3 basic colors. The improvement of SAMSUNG screen seems to be nothing but a Visual error. I mean they just made a software based module that enhance the image quality in the Pre-processing stage.

AnonD-331864, 24 Nov 2014Xperia Z3 is the best phone made ever.Many people reproach ... moreIt's true that the human eye can't see differences above a certain density (Something like 320ppi), but as it is, Samsung is the only company to utilize the high pixel count on it's phone by using a Diamond Pentile matrix (small green pixel, larger red and blue), rather than the standard RGB. This is what helps give it a higher saturation, as normally the blue and red pixels need to emit more light to be equal with the greens. Normally if using a diamond pentile matrix, you would notice 'lines' in the screen because of the pixel arrangement, but because it has such a high pixel density, you can't see a thing.

Xperia Z3 is the best phone made ever.Many people reproach SONY for not making a state of the art screen with better resolution. However in my opinion SONY did well. Resolution upper than 1080p for the screen lower than 6 inches isn't perceptible by human eyes. For SONY that acted as a milestone in the LCD industry it wasn't so difficult to make a better screen but doubling the energy consuming for nothing.

While the phone is mindblowing fast, reposinsive and the camera is very good. The build quality on the phone has some serious flaws. I have a Z2 tab as well wich cracked while waiting for a helicopter to pick us up from work. I was facebooking the exact time when the screen cracked out of nowhere.
My Z3 phone first looked like a crater after a 6cm fall. When i got it back from repairs and 400$ later. Front screen cracked by itself the very same day while charging.
Sony products, never again.

I own this Xperia Z3 for a week. No doubt battery life is very good,Ui is buttery smooth and the multitasking is awesome.
The camera is good but the front camera is decent, front dual speaker is loud enough. I had compared with my friend iphone 6 the screen is better than iphone 6 because the Iphone 6 is yellowish and also found that my Z3 got better signal reception is better than iphone 6, only iphone 6 speedy when open app than my z3,but only different a few second.so for my opinion this phone is 9/10. So go for it if u planning get it.

Amazing phone guys!!! Buy it!!! Really awesome experience about media, call quality, camera and tons of features that you may ask yourself: Why iPhone 6? Note 4 is great too but too much big in my opinion as a user that need to answer quick my clients.
