This phone is a powerhouse, in a compact package, so there's no compromises with this little beauty! Well done Sony, and keep up the good work!

Anonymous, 31 Jan 2017AndroidDev, flaming this comment section with "worst androi... more"pretty sure", I guess you've used a lot more Android phones than me, you must have used a lot of phones then! Thanks for backing up your assertion with actual discussion about the device in question. I posit that you are in fact the noob here.

And please, name some other phones that send you advertising Notifications, so I can compare againt them.

IMO it is the worst Android phone ever when considering: price vs manufacturer vs features listed vs the actual experience + the fact it was a 2015/2016 device. I've worked extensively (about a year each) with 7 Android phones, and less so with around 30 more Android devices. That is where I'm coming from.

People will tell you Sony phones have great cameras. The hardware might be specified well, however the experience of having to force close the app in order to have the focus restored is, again, excruciating. The panorama feature is horrible as it will not allow you to take vertical panoramas (where Nexus and others do) and you are forced to sweep about 240degrees, you cannot end the sweep early. The software lets all of the great specs down.

Switching between apps and handling Intents can often see delays measured in seconds, not milliseconds. The device spends a lot of time dealing with memory cleanup, as a result you will often come back to an app restarted as it got killed to claim some memory - I can only imagine the Sony apps are big parts of that terrible behaviour.

Sony's tweaks to Android here achieve new levels of awkwardness. When Notifications are displayed they will often be reordered, shuffled, before your eyes like some kind of circus act. When you plug headphones in you will get a Notification or 5 telling you that you plugged headphones in...thanks for that.

Did I mention the popups? Popup when you plug usb in, not a discrete Notification but rather Sony chose to command your attention to their shit UX.

I am pretty sure that the z5c is NOT the worst Android phone ever. Take your immature trolling somewhere else.

Who knows what the problem can be?
Being at the initial setup dialog, no UI controls respond, but for ex. if you press Power button, this dialog reacts fine. So the touchscreen itself seems to be fine, physically... Also, after some time leaved in this state, message appears that the app Camera was closed. Software reset via Xperia Companion did not help.

                        WORST ANDROID PHONE EVER CREATED

I bought this phone to replace my long used n4, because of the compact size.

The phone is top heavy and slippery AF, within a week it had slipped out of my pocket while getting into a car and tge back glass smashed.

The phone is horrendously laggy. Most everything you do will see excrutiating lag in opening or actioning an app.

Upon onboarding Sony will ask if you want to use their What's New app, if you say NO the What's New app and other related, useless bloatware will commence ruining your love of Android. You will recieve Notifications about horrible Sony games and apps, those Notifications may even be sent to you in the middle of the night. Sony don't think very hard about their users.

The phone app is the worst. Half the time when you open it to capture a rare opportunity you will miss the chance as you await the camera controls(including the 'take photo' button) to appear. After a year of usage I am writting this review having just missed aphoto opportunity because the camera controls broke, pressing 'take photo' did not take a photo. What a terrible phond and experience.

The phone will NOT transmit photos over a USB cable longer than about 8cm...Sony seem to have failed to properly isolate electromagnetic interference in the USB input. You must use a tiny cable, which is super annoying to use and very hard to find in most parts of the world (easiest to find in Japan).

This phone's build and software is amateur at best. I have a very low confidence in Sony as a result. It will take a miracle for me to sway towardsany form of Sony product in future.

Anonymous, 21 Jan 2017Cores don't matter for performance. Same goes for megapixel... moreThanks for your response , but i am not considering iphone SE for two reasons: firstly, no HD display, also, 4 inch is very small and screen to body ratio gets worse. so i prefer a compact phone from 4.3 to 4.7 inch, I prefer Android phones, then i have to choose between z5c and A3 2017 because X compact will not come to Qatar. I think i am going to buy the A3 2017 in few days, because i am comfortable with I9190 for more than 3 years.

Xperia Z5 Compact is a little older high end and much better han the new but low end Galaxy A3. However, if you want a compact phone, I would look out for iPhone SE. It may be a little bit pricier, but still has a much better value because it is technically an iPhone 6s and gets much longer updates, is much faster, better camera and overall a much better phone. Only battery performance may be just on par (if iOS 10.2.1 gets finally released with the battery issue fix)

Galaxy A3 2017 is released this week in Qatar. It is for 315$ however, z5 compact is for 274$. A fast comparison would be: same 2Gb Ram, both Octa core, both android 6, both water and dust proof, both have fingerprint sensor, however, battery endurance for A3 2017 is better. For me, i am not interested in the camera quality. I have been using Galaxy I9190 for 3 years and 3 months and it was a great experience. Also, i am more into Samsung, What do you think ? shall i got with the new phone ? any suggestions ??

joveen, 16 Jan 2017There's no heating issue and drain fast? The phone overheats a lot, A LOT. In fact, Sony baked-in to their terrible camera app, an overheating scenario whereby the app throws a popup before closing itself. You may be lucky, on a cold day to take 5 minutesof video but don't expect to be able to do that twice in a row.
