Aweful experience with this one. Overheating is one thing that I heard the most and I experienced that too. Just a few moment of filming is enough to make it go burning hot and automatically shut down. The body feels like cheat plastic and breaks very easily. The screen shattered after sliding a 30cm height and hitting the floor face down. Not at all the easy and durable option they claimed it to be. The speed at which it takes orders is another thing that put me off. See something nice you want to take snapshots of? Forget about it! It takes at least a few seconds for the phone to open the camera and get ready to shoot. Another second or two to focus and eventually take a blurry shot of the scene that's most likely no longer there. Overall, I'm getting more and more disappointed with what Sony is doing as the years pass. Once Sony was the guarantee that you get your money's worth, now ... it's just a gamble as they seem to care less and less about the quality and practicality of their products and more about useless looks.

TheMobileLover, 05 Jul 2018for you guys thinking of buying this smartphone, I gotta sa... moreNonsense. The snap 810 in the z5 does not have an overheating memo. Surprised to see trolls still spouting this nonsense amount 3 years after its release.

Been using this phone for 2.5 years. Last week I bought xz2c. Really great phone but kinda bulk thick heavy hard to hold in one hand. Sold it and went back to my beloved tiny z5c. Size of this phone is unbeatable. Every thing else is not great but ok. I live in hot country and the phone still performing flawlessly. The only two things I wish to change is Ram and Internal memory.

If you have the time, technical skills and don't mind a decline in camera quality, install LineageOS to bump the OS to 7.1.2 with the latest security updates and get a CPU governor like Kernel Adiutor. Tweak the settings to favor battery like over performance and either underclock all cores or disable the BIG cores. Now you have a phone that will never overheat and will breathe new life into it. Honestly the major limiting factor of this phone is the 2GB of RAM.

Yes this phone has it's flaws, but with a little bit of tweaking it is a cheap and reliable workhorse.

for you guys thinking of buying this smartphone, I gotta say DONT DO IT! the main reason is OVER HEATING.....I only browsing the web for 5min, and it started heating up like 40 degree..., the overheating issue really bug me ,I tried z3 compact before and the over heating problem exist as well, I will never buy a sony phone unless it doesn't heat like crazy...

I've been using this phone 4 years straight. It's my all time favorite phone. I keep it in my pants pocket, and at times I have to check to make sure it's there because of it's size and being so lightweight. I rinse my phone with soap and water when it gets grimy and it's been working as if it's still brand new. I wish it received android 8.0. I'll be upgrading to the XX1 compact in a few years however. Highly recommend the Z5 compact! Great if you're tired of having a 5-5.5 inch phone and you want something compact, yet powerful and has good battery life.

My one is still going strong after 2.5 years. No problems with battery life. I did smash the screen in it's first week, but it was replaced under warranty

Im not happy with it. Its supposed to be waterproof, yet, it broke when I got it wet. I got it replaced, and after 3 months, the battery just died, so I had to get it replaced again. Now, its overheating. Im not using it excessively, have 1 app open and it still heats up to a warning point. That problem is especially annoying when Im using it for navigation. I loved all the previous models, byt not this one

Without extensive use - no water - no dirt, the main microphone gave up after just a half a year and the main speaker makes dirty sounds. A no buy again - thaTs for sure.
Before i had a Z3 compact, really good! Imagine my disappointment with the Z5 compact.

Wow, two years later still using the z5c. I did not predict this. This is probably the longest I have ever had a smartphone and I have owned the z1, z1c, z3, and now z5c. Why do I keep using it? Well, it still works great. Battery life still lasts all day. It is responsive and still feels modern. And the reviews of the xz compacts have been meh. But with that said, I think the time has come to sell my beloved z5c and upgrade especially with the price drop on the xz2c. It was a good run, I will miss you.

Imagine: You're driving, phone legally placed in its charger/holder dock with Google Maps navigating for you and an audiobook program playing an mp3 file for you, and then suddenly the phone is hot enough to burn you and the screen won't respond. The side buttons won't lock+unlock the phone. Maps has frozen. The audiobook continues playing and even removing the aux cable just causes it to continue playing through its own speakers. No combination of pushing buttons, removing auxiliary jacks or disconnecting chargers will help. Your only recourse is to pull over, wait for the phone to stop having its heart attack, and EVENTUALLY, reset your audiobook and reboot Maps. Maybe you're driving on the highway, and there's nowhere to pull over without taking an exit? I certainly was.

This happened many times, seemingly at random, during my time with this phone.

I have no idea what sort of phones these other reviewers have, but my Xperia Z5 Compact is (and was) the devil. From the very beginning, it had random bouts of overheating and unresponsiveness from using simple web browsers (even from using facebook). Every update made it more sluggish. The rear camera inexplicably just stopped working one day, despite no impacts or damage. And now, finally, its battery won't even last me one work day.

Now, don't get me wrong. Because I apparently STILL haven't learned my lesson, my next phone will be a Sony too - as have all my previous phones. I have no idea why I am still their customer despite them constantly reminding me of why I shouldn't be. LIFE IS A WHEEL OF PAIN.

Guys this is a good phone performance-wise, but don't buy it if you live in a hot country, it heats up A LOT in summer. I live in Portugal and with temps approaching the 30ºC it becomes uncomfortable and slowish... It's a pity 'cause otherwise it's a good phone. The newest xperia compact models should have resolved this, I hope.
