      Hope you like long reads😅

Okay so I'm going to go by category and address all the points I can. I've been using the phone for as of this post 7 days. And here are my thoughts.

      Display:
For this price range the display is great. 120hz AMOLED with HDR 10. The display is bright and visible in harsh sun.
The bezels are also really thin(I'm looking at you Samsung A54😑). It gives the device a premium feel. The display is really well done Tecno really out did themselves at this price.
The also fixed the response time of the screen which was an annoying issue on the 19 series.
My only issue with the screen is that auto brightness either goes too bright or too dim and doesn't adapt to your preferences for different light levels like Samsung does which makes it annoying sometimes.
Aside that it's a great display for the price
      8/10..

      Performance
Now this is the most important part of a phone to me.
I'm a heavy gamer and I like to push my tech to the limit..

This phone runs on the dimensity 8050 ,which people even GSM arena are ragging on because it's a rebranded old Chipset of a rebrand.
Honestly (again at this price) who gives a hell.
This chip punches way above it's competitors in terms of all raw performance. It's a good chip and I feel safe saying it's flagship class..

      Genshin impact
Run well on the highest graphics
Ranging around 45 to 60 fps mark.
Though you will experience large dips in dense fights
      And prolonged play.
Specially if you put on 120hz.
I recommend 90 or 60 to help keep a more stable fps.

      Call of duty mobile
High on everything with all toggles switch on super resolution, etc.
Run very well but again put on the 120hz and the chip will throttle.

Put in simply Chip is great for multitasking and playing video games.

But here comes my issue. Thermals.
The chip gets hot way to easily. I get that in video games but sometimes it's warm for no reason.
Apart from the thermals the chip does great and I'd highly recommend if you are a gamer especially in this price point.
      7.5/10

      Design
Love it or hate it. It's unique the leather back and the camera island looks exaggerated but the feel of the whole phone is great in the hand(though it might take some time getting used to leather back it grows on you).

If you told someone it cost double of it's actually price they'd believe and the design is sure to get people asking questions. So it's a great flex if you care about that😅
      9/10

      Battery
Here I have mixed opinions it's seems to die quicker and charge slower than the 19 series which I found very odd. But I feel bad for complaining because the 19 series had a weaker Chipset and a dimmer screen but that's on battery life.

On the topic of charging I'm pissed my 19 pro 4g charges from 0 to 100 in roughly 1hr 5mins.
This 20 pro 5g the successor charges in 1hr 30mins
But they are the same wattage. 33w
Hell Samsung phones with 25watts charge faster
And to any one who brings the battery health argument.
Tecno should gives a toggle to turn it on or off.
      6/10

      Camera
The camera is great 65% of the time.
It takes great landscape abd scenery shots.
But indoors in complex light it sucks.
I say that because the AI camera does configure it's self properly for shots.

Compared to the 19 pro Series with same sensor this one is worse.
It's seems Tecno focused too much on shutter speed and forgot a good picture comes first.
There's noise around the edges of pictures, blurred subjects and inconsistent hdr.

I thought I had a defective unit but when I use pro mode j can eliminate the noise and produce sharper pictures. Hopefully fixed in a future update
The Marco and depth are useless😤
      4/10

      Software
The software Hios is fine nothing groundbreaking.
But it does gets annoying with all the bloatware which I eliminate the second I see them.

      Conclusion
The Tecno Camon 20 pro 5g is a good and for the price it does very.
If screen and performance matter to you then this phon is the best deal. But if you care about camera stay the hell away from this phone

tunknown, 12 Jul 2023downside with this brand 33 w charging quite good and no ... moreJust buy tempered glass cuz glass protection is not even a big deal.

This or redmi note 12 pro 5g

tunknown, 12 Jul 2023downside with this brand 33 w charging quite good and no ... morePersonally I am not a big fan for fast charging as it only reduces the battery longevity. I have smartphones which came with wall chargers ranging from mere 5 watts to 80 watts. No matter which phone I always use a 10 watts charger to keep the battery lasting long and always try to limit charging to 85% max.

AvgpPhPhoneUser, 10 Jul 2023oh wow are phones slowly leaving 12mp? starting to go to 16... moreWhat I can say is Tecno is trying to improve Camon 20 Pro's camera performance by continuously pushing new OTA updates. Considering the phone launched 2 months back, I have already received 2 software updates with below camera improvements:

              1) Optimized the stabilization effect of the front camera in the video mode
              2) Optimized the shooting effects of the rear camera in Face Retouching mode
              3) Optimized makeup effect of videos.

All in all I say the stabilization of videos, front and back with OIS have improved after this updates. It seems Transsion Holding have invested hugely on camera software and its algorithms and now it is paying the dividends. The rear can shoot videos at 4k@30fps max.
Simply put for this price, you cannot ask more.

AvgpPhPhoneUser, 10 Jul 2023Most screens should support some basic hdr10 even my gaming... moreToday I was shooting some pictures & videos with my Tecno Camon 20 Pro on my way to work. I am presently surprised with camera performance on this phone.

On the back we get a 64MP, F/1.65 primary camera which uses a Quad-Bayer pixel setup and hence captures 16MP stills by default. It is the Samsung S5KGWB sensor - 1/1.7", 0.8µm ISOCELL sensor. The sensor also has RGBW arrangement, replacing part of the green pixels of a traditional RGGB array with white ones. The alleged benefit from that is the better quality of light captured by the sensor. This sensor adorned with a total of 6 lenses in front, one of which is made of real glass element instead of a plastic one. Here I am not going to discuss about those two useless 2MP macro and depth sensors. Enough of hardware specs, now about real world experience.

The stills taken on daylight have plenty of detail, balanced contrast with great dynamic range. If I have to net-pick, I will say the colors seems to be tad muted. In 64MP mode, shots have much more details than 16MP default ones. My advice would be on bright daylight to always shoot on 64MP mode so as to get much more detailed images. Downside is we will be dealing with large files. I have also tested some portrait shots on main sensor, and be it human or non-human subjects, separation are excellent, and the background blur is pleasing. We can also do 2X digital zoom on main camera and pictures look very comparable to their 1x counterparts. Kudos to Tecno for providing us very good daylight photography.

The same cannot be said for night photography, as they are just ok. The level of detail is good for its price, but you always get oversharpened photos. In comparison, this is where my Tecno Phantom X comes on its own, with beyond belief night photography comparable to $1000 Samsung flagships. The main 64MP camera my Camon 20 Pro captures good 4K@30 fps videos. Nothing amazing but details & colors are good.

In the end I was nicely surprised with the credible image quality & videos Camon 20 Pro able to produce on its main rear camera. To my surprise it comes very close to daylight performance on Phantom X, only losing at night photography.

For the megre price I paid for Camon 20 Pro - ₹9.55K($115) and Phantom X - ₹13.3K($160) after exchanging our 9 year old, near dead, Motorola Moto Gs and getting $100 slashed off, I have no words what both phones are delivering in terms of camera performance.

Qiancas, 07 Jun 2023Who many OS or security patch update does tecno give? Well atleast for Camon 20 series, it will receive one major Android update (A13 to A14) and two years of security patch updates. I maybe wrong but it seems from this year they have changed the policy and introducing major Android updates.

jobycwa, 25 Jun 2023The display of Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5g looks dull and washed ... moreWell this is a budget AMOLED display on Tecno Camon 20 Pro, which tries to provide a lot of specs and for me succeeds in most.

The positives are a large 6.67 inch display, FullHD+, 120Hz refresh, HDR10+ certified, plenty bright and vibrant 10-bit AMOLED panel for multimedia consumption. We have Widevine L1 certification here, so HD contents from OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video can be viewed with ease. Also the display comes with very high 1920Hz PMW so almost no strain or eye fatigue. Touch response is good. Another benefit of having the powerful Dimensity 8050 SoC onboard is, which playing 4K videos on Youtube it does not stutter, which is often the case for other budget devices.

On the negatives, I wish in pitch dark the display could go even lower in terms of brightness like 1 or 2 nits. And yes the default color setting tend to be more bluish which can be rectified from the display settings. I think we simply cannot ask anything more form the display considering the price the phone is offered.

Comparing Camon 20 Pro's display quality with say my Tecno Phantom X will be unjust. Phantom X is more expensive phone, hence the display color quality, infinite contrast and color calibration is much superior.

AvgpPhPhoneUser, 07 Jul 2023If you can overlook the issues with the poor amoled display... moreAfter owning the Tecno Camon 20 Pro for few days, I am pleasantly surprised with the amount of hardware and more than expected user experience it is able to deliver for its mere asking price. In a word AWESOME. And that too from a not so well recognized brand like Tecno in India.

Just a week before I got their last year's flagship, the Phantom X from Amazon, at half its normal price. At just ₹13.3K($160). Great device with flagship built quality at this price. They were providing unreal exchange prices which were just too hard to resist. For my nine year old Motorola Moto G (2014) no one was even ready to shell out a dime. But here I got an exchange value of ₹7.45K($80). So I had the Phantom X at a heartbeat.

As such I was not ready to invest on any new phone for now, but the offer price of Tecno Camon 20 Pro on Amazon was just even more unreal. So had to get one for my wife. Hence I got the 8/128GB variant of Camon 20 Pro. This phone normally sells for ₹20K($240) in India. This time I exchanged my wife's nine year old Motorola Moto G (2014) and got an even better exchange value of ₹8.45K($100). After adding additional ₹2K($25) flat discount on any card it all came down to ₹9.55K($115). This is an unreal price for such a device, you see these deals once in a blue moon.

Considering the Camon 20 Pro was launched just two months back on 27th May 2023 in India, it comes with latest specs from top to bottom. On the exterior the phone comes with a boxy design having a very unique sky blue coloured vegan leather back. The polygon shaped camera bump is a very unique design which I have never seen before. The phone as a whole makes a very attention grabbing statement in terms of bold design and comes with unique aesthetics which is unseen in this price category. I heard it has own some design awards too. I don't like the chrome coloured glossy plastic sides though, they are fingerprint magnet.

On the front you are greeted with a gorgeous 6.67 inch, FullHD+, 120Hz refresh, HDR10 certified, 10-bit AMOLED panel which is just made for multimedia consumption. It is plenty bright at near 1000 nits, has under display fingerprint scanner and comes with very narrow bezels. It makes the phone look very modern and premium. Also it has with an amazing 1920Hz PMW so almost no strain or eye fatigue. It is the most amazing display you get under $150. It is same display you get in much more expensive Techo Camon 20 Premier. Full marks to Tecno for design and display.

The phone comes with the best SoC you can ever get under ₹20K($240). I am talking about the Mediatek Dimensity 8050 based of TSMC 6nm fabrication process. This SoC is a direct descendent of Dimensity 1200 so it just blows all previous SoCs available in this price segment out of the water in terms of pure performance when coupled with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM. Everything you try just glides as feels butter smooth in operation. I am not a heavy gamer though.

On connectivity front, its supports 10 5G bands. All 5G bands in India are supported and this is also a proper dual 5G SIM phone. I tested 5G connectivity with JIO, no issues. It has support for WiFi 6 and NFC. I do not use NFC now but it may become handy later. It also has support for memory card expansion which is a huge bonus.

On audio front too it has everything covered. DTS certified dual stereo speakers which are loud. The GOD sent 3.5mm HiRes certified audio jack is also present. I am yet to speak about its camera performance which is one of the best you can get for this price. On the software, battery, charging and camera front, I will write more on my next post.

Remember, Camon 20 Premier and Camon 20 Pro are the same phone. Tecno sell 20 Premier for ₹30K($360) with a slightly better camera and faster charging while omitting the very important microSD card slot and the audio jack. Everything else are identical. Camon 20 Pro is just better value for money.

In short I don't know if Tecno is doing some kind of media stunt, but at the price of ₹9.55K($115) just grab Camon 20 Pro while you can by exchanging with any 10 year old near dead phone and in having $100 slashed off from its asking price.
