Two Huawei employees arrested in Poland over spying allegations

Ro, 11 January 2019

Two Huawei employees had been arrested in Poland over allegations of spying for the Chinese government. This is the second incident after Huawei's CFO got arrested in Canada.

Now the Polish counterintelligence agency believes it has hard evidence of Huawei's employees' wrongdoings. One of them is Polish while the other one is Chinese. The Chinese national is a sales director while the Polish is a former high-ranking official at Poland's internal security agency.

Both of them will remain in custody for the next three months and could face up to 10 years in prison. Huawei, on the other hand, said that it's aware of the situation but denies comments for now.

The company has been fighting on several fronts for the past year. It all started when US carriers stopped selling Huawei smartphones and the government prohibited officials from using devices from the company. The USA then asked the rest of the world to ban the use of Huawei equipment and some countries like Australia and the UK listened.
