UK carriers will sell the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G

In a press release posted by Huawei today, the phone maker confirms three mobile operators in the United Kingdom will carry one of Huawei’s first 5G smartphones – the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G. Three, Sky Mobile, and Carphone Warehouse have all confirmed that they will be selling the Mate 20 X 5G “in the coming weeks”.

Despite the United States’ ban on Huawei equipment, UK operators are still set on supporting Huawei devices. Seeing as Huawei already has a strong presence in this market, it is no surprise that the UK welcomes 5G devices from Huawei. In fact, all UK 5G operators depend on Huawei for equipment.

We also have a responsibility to make it clear to consumers that nothing has changes and we are confident about the future, and will always ensure out consumers enjoy the best possible experience on their Huawei devices. We are grateful to our million s of loyal customers in the UK – and we will soon welcome millions more. – Anson Zhang, Managing Director of Huawei UK

The Huawei Mate 20 X 5G is the largest member of the Huawei Mate 20 lineup. It features identical hardware to that of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, minus the 3D face unlock and with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor instead one embedded into the display.

The 5G variant of the Mate 20 X features a smaller 4,200 mAh (from the 4G version’s 5,000 mAh) battery and this one omits the 3.5mm headphone jack. It also omits the front-facing loudspeaker as on the 4G LTE variant. The smaller battery is unfortunate, but the inclusion of quicker 40W Super Charging does compensate for that.

Otherwise, the Mate 20 X features a huge 7.2-inch OLED screen with a tall 2244x1080p resolution and waterdrop notch. The phone is powered by the Huawei Kirin 980 chipset and 5G support is thanks to Huawei’s in-house HiSilicon Balong 5000 5G modem.

The Huawei Mate 20 X 5G will become available from Three, Sky Mobile, and Carphone Warehouse starting tomorrow, July 26 in Emerald Green for a suggested price of £999.

No google devices that's for sure, for, you know, they have google services embedded in them. So that leaves consumers with just one alternative option: Apple. And no google/facebook/instagram/whatsapp/youtube/etc. apps installed at all.

I agree with you on that, Google is a security risk but sadly there are small to none alternatives for it. I would happily buy a phone that comes with minimum Google apps and no social media apps, now many are getting away from social media apps but ...
