RishiGuru, 11 Apr 2022Hi Aloke, thanks for such an elaborate and accurate present... moreHi Rishi,
Glad to know that you are sticking with Android 11 on your IQOO3 and keeping the traits of a gaming phone alive.
As far my experience with S20 fe 5g is concerned, I am happy with it in all the aspects except gaming performance. If I compare it with IQOO3 in terms of raw performance then, IQOO3 will eat S20 FE 5g without taking a burp! Three areas where IQOO3 is superior than S20 Fe 5g - gaming performance, fast charging and dedicated audio jack. Rest in all the areas be it camera, software optimization, software experience, stable updates and support, longevity, excusive apps, dedicated SD card, wireless and reverse wireless charging, brand support etc. you will find S20 fe 5g is better.
I just updated it to latest Android version and security patch (one ui 4.1). After updating and using it for a week, my experience is by far nice. No downgrades in performance and camera. Rather, they have added a whole ton of extra featues. Only impact which I have found is phone's volume. Earlier it was very loud and it has been decreased after the update. Rest, it works like charm.
As far as screen quality is concerned, I have no issues with the screen quality of S20 Fe 5g. Though you will find iqoo3's screen brighter and more vibrant because it has 800 nits normal brightness and 1000 nits peak brightness whereas , s20 fe 5g has only 650 units. However, the quality is very nice. Very good AMOLED setup with 120 hz. No issues in outdoor visibility.
If you are planning to buy this phone then, go for it. It is now available around 35k. You will get much better features and support than any other brand. For gaming, I only play CODM and emulation games like Tekken 6, God of War etc. S20 fe 5g plays it very well. Another point why you should buy this phone is that this is the only phone in flagship level where company has re-launched it naming, 'S20 fe 5g 2022'. So, you will get more stable updates in future. Also, i am against with the processors like sd 888, 888+, 8 gen1 and whole mediatek family. They act as microwave oven. The last best and stable flagship processors made by SD family was 865 and 870. Go for phones with these processors or wait for next generation processors.
Hope it helps dear.

Aloke Das, 10 Apr 2022Hi Rishi,
See I am not in a habit of updating my phone... moreHi Aloke, thanks for such an elaborate and accurate presentation of software update experience on your phones.
I completely agree with your thoughts, and have decided to keep my iQOO 3 on Android 11 only. I want to keep all its special features intact which make it stand out from the generic smartphone crowd. I don't want my gaming oriented iQOO 3 to become jack of all trades Vivo. Recently I downgraded both my LG G8X's from Android 11 to Android 10 as later version came with some alarming issues. So much for updates.
Android version upgrades seems not that rosy after all, as new Android versions requires new drivers from chipset manufacturers to make it compatible with latest Android versions. And often the new drivers (a bridge between the hardware and the OS) released by chipset manufacturers in maintenance phases are NOT as good as the initial one. The initially released stable driver is ALWAYS super optimized to drive max performance from the chipset. It's performance has direct impact on the sale of the chipset fresh during release.
I have a Meizu 16th (Meizu 16 in China), which I bought during Meizu recent brief visit to India back in 2019. It arrived with Android 8.1 and stayed their. The phone software even on old Snapdragon 845 and 8 gigs of RAM is super stable. Everything works as intended, awesome performance, no hiccups or slow downs. I also love this phone for its supreme built quality and aesthetics. A Meizu trait.
How are your current experiences with Samsung S20 FE 5G? How will you rate the phone in comparison with iQQO 3 in terms of raw performance? How about the software experiences and do you think Samsung also follows the planned obsolesce in software upgrades? I have an eye on this phone, but few things are keeping me off. Most notably is the absence of audio jack. How is the display of the phone? Is it a high quality Samsung AMOLED?

RishiGuru, 31 Mar 2022Thanks for the info, Aloke.
I don't mind if they a... moreHi Rishi,
See I am not in a habit of updating my phone's software as and when company provides it.By using different brand phones from a long time, what I have learned is, if your phone is running smoothly and perfectly as it was like out of the box; then you should not update your phone with every update provided by the company.
If the update provided by the company has some major updates like receiving next Android generation, new features in camera, additional features in UI then, go ahead and update. However, if company provide updates only by describing, "Minor bugs and fixes improvements", never ever do such updates.
These updates generally tend to decrease your apps performance and it impacts your overall phone's performance. This is a sign which brand provides that now your phone is ageing. Time to get a new phone and make our profits.
I usually update till 1.5 years from the launching date without any hesitation. After that I have seen that many companies provide unnecessary updates which impacts your phone's performance. Be it Apple, Vivo
Lenovo, Asus, Samsung etc.
I have an iPhone. When IOS pushes updates then, you have to install it. There is no way that you can skip the latest update and wait for next stable update. If you do not update your iPhone then, apps will misbehave; your phone will misbehave. Sometimes it will not charge with one end of cable, sometimes apps will crash and close by itself, phone will become hot like a frying pan etc. However, with the time, you will see your iPhone performance has degraded. The same apps which were running perfectly out of the box has not been performing same after 2 years.
On Android, it's your choice. Update only if you find that your app is misbehaving or you seriously need that update you were waiting for. Otherwise don't. It will keep your performance of your phone as it was out of the box or like recent stable received update.
In my opinion, you should not update to Android 12 in IQOO3. I am using S20 Fe 5g now as my IQOO3 was pick pocketed in a metro. However, if it would have been with me, I also would not have updated it to Android 12. For me IQOO3 was performing like a beast in gaming, camera department and day-to-day tasks without taking a sweat. Battery backup was also nice.
For me, there is not point of updating to Android 12 as it is killing on of the unique features of IQOO3(triggers) and I don't think so that Vivo is giving a lot of value in Android 12 as compared to more stable Android 11.
Hope it helps dear.

I don't mind if they are late by a month, what I am more worried about is they have removed the Monster Touch feature on latest Android 12 based iQOO UI. This proves they are not so focused on gaming anymore.
Secondly, I am worried about planned obsolescence and in a dilemma to whether update to Android 12 when available.

It's 29-3-2022 still no word of android 12 update for Iqoo 3. I think, they are not very interested for this segment, therefore, OS 12 update will be postponed.

Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, Realme, and iQOO are owned by the same parent company — the Chinese multinational BBK Electronics. Yes, some of the world’s most popular smartphone brands are owned by the same entity. BBK Electronics and all its brands have gone to great lengths to keep this fact in relative obscurity. In fact, as BBK Electronics is a privately held company, we still don’t know the exact ownership structure of these brands.

Also, android 12 will come with IQOO UI (which is a good thing if you're a gamer as it is more optimized for gaming than Funtoich OS). Since it will be the last update therefore, company is not giving any priority to IQOO3. After this IQOO UI will be dead.

I am worried with FuntouchOS (over Android 12) as received in iQOO Z5, we now get Google dialer which implicitly means call recording will be a pain with the other person knowing.
Till now iQOO 3 running on Android 11 still have Vivo's own dialer with call recording which is superb.
