That way they would have easly got the numbers and V3Max would have been instant hit in India with timely software updates.

I wonder is it Vivo/ Oppo / Gionee EGO that gets in their way of pricing their products so high.

All it depends on volume sold by company if vivo became able to sell v3max in good numbers than definitely there marketing team will ask for updates from company to get good faith of consumers as vivo has bet heavily on v3max sponsoring IPL to make there brand famous company has great expectations from v3max and as a owner I am feeling satisfied and I am saying this even after I was using note 3 however its my bypass handset as I am waiting for Nokia as something amazing is cooking in Nokia labs

They don't have the R&D infrastructure or have the ability to provide timely software updates yet their prices are sky high.

You have to realise these brands aren't really going after the power user. These devices are designed for the "set-it, use it and forget it" crowd. Such consumers care less about OS versions and technicalities - they want good audio, good camera and a few basic apps like Instagram and Facebook with a VERY easy to use UI. And these devices from Gionee/Oppo/Vivo are doing very well to fill that need. They're durable enough to withstand an average user's day too, so what's really wrong? Most of my friends do not really obsess over OS upgrades anyway.

Jerry, 09 May 2016Hey I'm new to Android. What do u mean by this? Does this... moreIf these brands will in fact deliver any update, it will be VERY slow to reach the user. Oppo is planning to release Marshmallow to F1/R9 and the Find 9/Find 7 series. That's all, do not expect any updates for other series. Do not expect Android N at all. We have not yet heard of any Vivo phone ever getting updates. Some rare phones got Android KitKat from Jelly Bean, that's all.

It's similar with most other Chinese brands - Xiaomi updates the software but not the OS, for example, except with select few models. Same with TCL/Alcatel, Panasonic, Gionee, Micromax, etc.

OnePlus does deliver updates, but given that the brand was formed to cater to European markets, that makes sense. Lenovo also provides updates for some of its models. That's as far as you can put your trust in the Chinese brands for updates.

If you want brands that DO provide timely updates (even SECURITY updates, let alone android version upgrades), go for mid-rangers or high-end devices from LG, Samsung, Sony, Nexus Devices, Motorola and HTC's One series (not Desire).

It doesn't feel BAD, mind you, but it sure doesn't give me the feel of a "properly built" product. There are other issues like the quality and type of joints used inside the assembly, etc. - mind you, none of this actually affects using the phone. You'd need to be an engineering nut and start smashing things with hammers to actually see this difference....so for the average guy, I doubt there is a serious difference in quality. Engineering-wise, however....

Clash, 09 May 2016To be frank, some of these Chinese brand are really steppin... moreFor the price Vivo V3Max retails for, I can think of a number of good smartphones that do better with both OS, RAM management and Camera. Hi-Fi audio isn't really such a big deal as people think....in fact 24-bit/96 kHz is standard on a number of SoCs out-of-the-box already (the separate chips and amps are to increase isolation and reduce noise....nothing a good engineer cannot bypass anyway).

There's the Galaxy A8, Xperia C5/M4/M5, LG G4, G Flex2, a number of HTCs starting from Desire 828 to the One ME, Asus ZenFone2, Moto X series etc. each of them delivers a better experience than what Vivo does. That being said, Oppo and Vivo have VERY good products in sub-20K range (Oppo F1/R9 is pretty good, Vivo X3 Max also comes to mind).

But if I think Chinese, I only think of Gionee.
