KKK - yes, you can put mp3 sound for incoming message alert
Axel - you can install java games, it supports java applications in general, but due to the lack of hardware buttons, some of them are quite unusable.
It does offer video recording, but the video quality is absolutely horrible - tiny resolution and ridiculous framerate of 5 fps at best.
You asked what is good about this phone...well, my main phone being a smartphone, I appreciate the 543s size, relatively thin, small, easy to put into pocket and take out when needed, decent battery life - with moderate use you can squeeze out 3-4 days on a single charge, it has exchangeable covers so some people might appreciate that(mine came with total of 3 shells)

Yes, the loudness of the ringtone is a bit shy, so it happened a few times that I actually missed a call because of this.
Ryno, I have no idea what you are talking about with those 3 buttons. I just enter the PIN and start using the phone. And to answer your question, NO - it was not worth buying this phone.

i am more concern about the speaker, sound is too low one can'nt hear it when it ring. i got one....... the speaker

Why cant i log into the menu of the phone after i type my pin code in ,it keep on giving me the blank screen with 3 buttons i must press from top to centre to bottom and nothing happens, was it worth buying this phone

Well, I haven't fount any themes on the phone, so probably you cant change them, only the background picture.
As far as battery life is concerned, or as you call it "lasting", with moderate use it holds up for 3-4 days.

I got this phone a few days ago, and must say it fails painfully. On paper it has lots of options, but in reality, none of them function not even close to decently. The 1.3mpix camera takes almost unusable photos, the video camera records literally 5fps videos, the FM transmitter is a laugh, the bluetooth although ver.2.0 is painfully slow, the user interface shows that only 23 minutes went into its design...sooo to sum up, even though I got this phone for free on a new 2 yr contract, it's still not worth its 0 euro pricetag. hai..i used in yahoo messenger and it works.just connect the phone to PC and select webcam.while start chatting click on vedio chat.i tried to see myown cam but it doesn't work. i think this phone work as webcam only in vedio chat.if we invite or share our webcam only it will not work but if we use vedio chat this phone will be work as a webcam.

I find this phone a very good value for the money. It plays mp3, it sorts the music by album/artist/playlist, it has groups in the contacts, it has radio with RDS , it has a FM transmitter (so you can send your music to a radio for amplification), it works as a modem via bluetooth and with bluetooth earphones.
However, I found two shortcomings: bluetooth does not work as a file browser, you need a special data cable for that; the touch screen is not very good.
For the first shortcoming, if you have a data cable, then Alcatel has the PC software for sync. Go here:

For the second problem: the phone has a joystick for easier navigation, but nonetheless, you can not type quick sms on the screen. If you have long nails, it is better, but even so it is a bit slow.
I find this phone a great replacement while my smartphone is in repair.
