AnonD-94055, 14 Jan 2013I have to say just one thing...u're totally wrong !...u can... moreI agree with you and respect your opinion. If you have good things to say about this phone please post them for others to see. My opinion is not universal and is based on my experience only.
However, more than a handful of other people have gone through similar issues as I had and in some cases worst. Others have commented about the phones flawlessness which might is also true. I do not have any grudges against this phone or any company related to it.Faulty phones are out there as a product of mass production and someone will always be a victim of it.

JIM, 09 Jan 2013The Vodafone smart 2 should be impressive to its projected ... moreI totally agree. The smart 2 is a heavily flawed phone and even at below triple digit prices, it is still overpriced (as is usually the case with most Vodafone phones). By enforcing their warranty, Vodafone has made this phone worthless.
This phone is supposedly Wi-Fi capable. However, the proxy settings have been locked by Vodafone which makes this phone unusable at Wi-Fi hotspots and also on your home Wi-Fi network. This also has the added benefit of turning all the fancy apps preinstalled on this phone by Google and Vodafone as bloatware because without any data connection they are all useless. Even the GPS function requires a data connection to function. Can you believe it!? It seems that you will need to throw your money away on a Vodafone data plan if you want to get this phone online.
Another trick with this phone is the fact that as (with all rooted phones) the system files are locked, So the Google play app that’s installed by default on the phone is for “ window shopping” purposes only. No apps from Google play can be installed on this phone and most useful apps that you might end up installing will either malfunction or crash. Firefox, Chrome, Opera mobile, Dolphin …. Etc. will not work on this phone. With regards to android games, you can expect only some basic 2d games to work on this phone, again due to Vodafone’s restrictions.
There’s plenty more trouble with the smart 2 but one of the most awkward things about this phone is the onscreen keyboard size. Your pinkie finger will struggle not to type in the wrong letter. Anyone who reads through online forums or Google’s this phone will also be aware of the common hardware issues with this phone. Well, coming from Alcatel………. So in my opinion, buying the smart 2 is buying into a lost cause. Even if you root it, chances are the hardware will fail before the warranty period expires and you will be stuck with a zombie phone.

Anonymous, 25 Dec 2012This phones seems too good to be true ,whats the volume like ?The speakerphone volume is quite average. The headphones are quite basic but have gives good stereo sound effects at a descent volume. I would advise you to use your own ringtone on this phone since most, if not all the default tones lack feel and has a an initial low sound that gradually increases in volume the longer it rings.

neptun teg, 07 Jan 2013does this phone have a pc suite?Vodafone does not supply any PC suite for this phone. However, the manufacturer of this phone (Alcatel) does have PC suites for its phones. I cannot guarantee that it will work with the smart 2 though.

The Vodafone smart 2 should be impressive to its projected market. However, after all is said and done it isn’t exactly ’phone of the decade’. At first glance this phone does nothing else than impress. It is in many instances a way better package that that is closest and more expensive rivals (The Samsung Galaxy Y for example). Design wise it is a very neat looking phone and holds itself firmly in the palm of one’s hand. Its really is an inconspicuous handset to be fair. According to Vodafone the smart 2 comes in a vast array of colour schemes, however, black seems to be to most popular colour scheme for this phone.
Not all is as it seems with this phone. The smart 2 is a brand new phone with an outdated OS. This is why a low battery life is a common issue with this phone. It is because Android Gingerbread is an all-around power hungry OS. When this phone was released in June 2012 Android Gingerbread was already outdated and two more efficient versions (Android Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich) had already been released. One should also take into consideration the fact that Alcatel, the company who manufactures this handset for Vodafone, is not particularly well known for their battery producing expertise.
As this is a Vodafone-only handset, the rules are the same in which-ever country you are. The rules are very simple:
                    1) 95% of the apps you would like to run on the phone will not run because you do not have root access.
                    2) Rooting this phone might void the Vodafone Warranty.
                    3) With respect to the above, much of what runs by default on this phone including the OS are non-upgradable/updatable and Vodafone cannot be held responsible if the default apps (even their own Vodafone apps) are corrupt of have limited functionality.
I learnt all this through a quick call to Vodafone’s customer service centre when my phones Wi-Fi connection went crazy. It is Advisable to use Opera Mini on this phone since the default browser is prone to failure since root access to your phones Network files are limited thanks to Vodafone. Establishing a Static IP for your phone is a proposed solution but if you are using Wi-Fi on the go then it is not advisable.

To conclude, my opinion of the Vodafone Smart 2 is as follows:
It is a Lemon of a phone. Though it is advertised and branded as a Smart phone it really is a very limited handset with and outdated OS. The phones limited Wi-Fi abilities have also convinced me that the smart 2 is a possible advertisement platform for Vodafone’s data plan. However, if rooted, it will definitely be worth every penny spent on it (even though it is a cheap phone to begin with). If a proper budget smartphone is what you’re after, my advice is to go for a slightly more expensive and possibly unlocked Samsung Galaxy Y, or even better, a HTC Desire C.

Hi, just got one of these phones for my wife. She will only be using it for texts and calls (old fogeys) and whilst the phone is great for the price the ringer and message notification volumes are so weak you can hardly hear them even with the volumes set to max.Ok talking. If this helps, great ! if anyone knows how to increase these volumes I would be grateful.

Have this phone for last few days and im really impressed with abilities vs price its really impressive phone (budged android phone). All listed features are fully operational but as usually there is something bad about this phone like all devices good and bad things. For me screen is too small and typing is kind a difficulty especially for someone with big hands :D Camera isn't great but what you can expect form 3.2Mp so low light give very poor quality picture, video same results. Processor is not too fast so less apps available form Android market but because of that battery liofe is longer than better phones with stronger processors and bigger screens. Im looking at the moment for custom rom for this phone will see what happens with different os version :D Overall great little cheap phone :D
