X now has a vertical video feed in the US

Vlad, 20 January 2025

TikTok is back up in the US but a lot of its competitors have been making moves to attract its users these past few days, and today X announced its own bid to convince TikTok defectors to join its network.

X now has a vertical video feed with its own dedicated tab in the app. This is unsurprisingly only available in the US for now, as that's where TikTok ceased operations for a few hours.

Considering the fact that TikTok is operating in the US again, it's unclear whether this move from X will have any effect, but it does cement the dominance of vertical video on social networks left and right if nothing else.

TikTok is most likely going to get an extension to its "get sold or be banned" deadline once President-elect Trump is inaugurated later today, so a ban could still come into effect in a few months. And if so, then X will be ready with its own TikTok-like feed.

Nothing seems to be stopping this now. It just suck that most vertical videos are just landscape videos with the left and right sides cutoff.
