If that true then it's worth to avoid the particular device or highlights this problem to consumer ordeveloper to take precautions.

They don't really know what is it that they really want or need, something that essential to use as a daily driver.
All they know is read some headline, follow the trend then blabbing something stupid, and by the end of the day they just all talk, didn't buy/own anything.

with all people nagging about Ip rating when did it became big? Yes devices come in less price ranges because they don't get their devices certified as the certifications cost a lot as much to increase the price over $100-$200 deal and most people dont care about these certification's, Do you think Xiaomi worlds most sold mobile brand is betting their flagships with such tricks? These phones do come with some water protection and not to forget if you are going to swim just avoid taking it to dive (the probability of y'all swimming is less than 10-20 times in a year or the device life time with is over 2years)

as a person who been using a budget phone which is oppo a3s for the past years , i see this xioami 12 is very promising , i see lots of people complaining about ip, audio jack , or optical zoom , or usb 2.0 . i dont really mind about that , its true having an ip rated can saved your phone from raining or else , but im not that careless who let my phone sit in the rain , plus if your normal android drop into water , still have a chance of surviving i guess , dc jack , not a big problem , modern problem require modern solution , dongle or tws should do , about usb 2.0 , well im using micro usb right now , having usb type c is more than enough for me , if you expect big things than , you can wait for other big brand like samsung , after all , its comes down to personal opinion , i dont mind about all of that , i think this is a great android

are phones getting worse than better? i thought we got technological progress. this phone got only usb-c 2.0 instead of 3.1 (like its predecessor), it's got only 2× optical zoom (predecessor had 5× optical zoom), highest storage option is 256gb (predecessor had choice for 512gb), it's got no card slot (same like predecessor) and finally it's got 120w charging to burn your battery off, so you will need to buy a new one earlier.

If it had a 3.5mm jack and a microSD slot it would be worthy phone. Now it's just one more fadphone.

Xiaomi 12 Pro not IP67 or IP68 rated. I'd rather buy Galaxy S20FE the newer Galaxy S21FE which is coming this January 2022. Maybe the more expensive S22 +. If the Xiaomi 12 series are IP67 or IP68 I'd buy it.

Some devices offer reliable IP standard unlike their 400$ price or lower and I dont have 2000$ to do what you offered.

But seriously though.
- SD card slot is Super Nice to Have. Sure the devices now already have big storages. But, if it have SD card slot, you can even double them for cheap !!!
- Audio Jack, for me personally it didn't matter. Not because of TWSs, but I personally didn't use my phone to listen to musics (I got a DAP). My current phone have audio jack but if I upgrade to one that didn't have one I would just get a type C "Dongle DACs" (it (may) also make it sounds better) and just stick it to my phone's daily driver earphone(/headphones, IEMs, you name it).
- USB 2.0, Didn't really matter that much. I rarely transfer big files (or use any other features that come with it) and if I do, I just gonna start the transfer and do something else (usually do this with my tablets though).
-IP Rating, I don't know how important this is for most people, they usually still gonna have some protection. I just generally avoid using my phone near waters.
But That's only my opinion (just note that I didn't even use my current phone that much).
