Xiaomi is still using Type-C 2.0, barring it from HDMI-out to external displays. With 3.1 getting common, 2.0 is common for the affordable high-spec brands.
These phones will never be a true flagship experience if they are not compatible with the Type-C accessories out there.

Even if it support USB 3.0 it WILL NEVER get any speed faster than USB 2.0 standard, not even close. Because storage encryption and MTP is the real cause of slow transfer on any android. Wireless syncing is the way to go.
(even iPhone 13 Pro Max use USB 2.0, and I don't see anyone complaining about it)

For lower spec phones I get it but this is the top end phone for them and still USB 2.0..why?

The curves are subtle like on the LG V30 or S21+ which don't produce a noticeable waterfall effect. Nothing crazy like the ones found on the Note20 Ultra, Huawei P40 or even OnePlus 9 Pro.

1. they trying... moreSame here. I bought redmi note 5 (global version called ai dual camera) because it was the best-buy mid-range phone. But now I don't prefer xiaomi like 2-3 years ago. The big dissapointment was the last stable update - support for this device ended with android 9.1 and miui 11 (but they still send app upgrades). I was hoping at least 2 and half years of upgrades like they used to send. Also, I don't really like miui.
So now I'll switch to realme gt or gt neo 2.
