are you sure you are talking about mi5 and miui? miui 8 for mi 5 got only 2 updates ever, after its initial 8.0 first update was 8.1.0- 8.2.2 never released ota, the 2nd update was 8.5.3, how you have got so many little updates? the regular weekly update is only for developer rom (aka, beta rom). Im using mi5 for around 11 months, I had no single problem, not on stable nor on developers rom

How is battery performance on miui 9 ... morei get 3-4 hours, but SOT is not the best way to give you the battery life, screen on time with doing nothing, and sot while playing a game should not be compared together, its you that know how your phones battery is, i do charge my phone almost every 24-36 hours, with my moderate daily use. sometimes i have to charge it even while its on 40% because, i dont want to be stuck on empty battery next day.
for me the miui9 has improved my experience with my mi5, the battery is better now, speed is much improved.

Kindly note that the flagship product of Xiaomi the MI5 has major issues in GPS. After the Andriod ver 7 same majority of the phones started having issues. Even after almost an year Xiaomi has not found a solution . You have to be a software developer and do changes in firmware to get this rectified.
When you call the support desk they ask to do a factory reset which is cumbersome. Even after doing that it does not work. Just type " GPS not working MI " and you will see the complaints from world over . Read the frustration and you will not dare buy MI products.
They are busy only selling and not even bothered to give fixes to existing customers. In today's world service is most important, Companies have collapsed only because of poor service, and hope the CEO Mr. Manu jain takes note of this.
So even if your MI is working today, you never know the compability status when new version of Andriods are launched. So its better to spend more on a reliable brand as it comes out to be cheaper in long run and that too without hassles.

I becom... moreAlways buy Mi5, there is no comparison between A and Mi5, Mi5 is a premium smartphone with snapdragon processor and decent Camera while the A1 is a midrange smartphone with dual camera. Check the reviews on YouTube etc, you will get to know that in real life performance the camera is not that good as advertised. Further the camera of Mi 5 is just brilliant 16mp with OIS 4axis. If you learn how to use the manual modes and all, you will explore a bunch of its features.
Another thing that people are saying that A1 is stock android and all, I personally love the modi interface, if has lot of customization. Now the battery life and performance is just wow, look at the design Mi 5 is the sexiest phone for this price. So my choice is Mi 5.

But if your looking for a stock android phone, with mid-range specs, decent camera, and a good sized battery, go for the a1. In my opinion I would choose the mi 5.

I would to share my feedback about phone....MI5
I become a Fan of Xiaomi after my first fitness battery life.
I decided to go for Mi5 as my phone.
Dont Buy Mi5
It was with Miui 7 and battrey life 2 days and day after I got option to 8 and then i had horrible experiences, very frequently new updates which fix something and break something and thats loop.
Global, Stable , Beta ...heck all that tech jargans.
Now there is issue with Motherboard, Phone almost dead and when I visited service center they said its common issue with Mi5 , SO NO TO MI5 .......

the best way is to upgrade to miui9, if your phone is locked, go ask for unlock permission then flash your phone to miui9, remember to backup your phone as it will wipe off your data completely.

Then i finally updated to 8.5.3.0 but sadly now also my phone battery backup is bad......
Resetted phone 2 times no improvement.
My phone is just 7 months old.

jeeva, 15 Sep 2017yes mine also global 8.2.2.0 battery life very bad. jus 3 ... moreprobably your charger is not a fast charger, 8.2.2 is known for excess battery usage, update to 8.5.3 , if you want even better go for miui9 (however its in beta phase, but still better than stable)

most probably your rom is fake, to tell you what's the right steps for you, kindly go to setting/about phone and right the miui and android version, need the number and characters to verify what rom you got

Xiaomi Mi 5 screen is Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and im using Xiaomi Mi 5 Prime for a year plus already and i dropped it many times on the floor and my screen still dmn fine. The back of the phone also not only glass but also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4! Mine until today still perfectly fine.

If you are on stable ROM then first thing you need to do is, lodge a request from settings menu for unlocking your bootloader. It takes around 3-4 days to get the approval. Once you get the approval, wait for at least 72hours and then proceed with the steps required to install Beta version of MIUI9.
STEPS:
1: Download MIUI9 ROM.
2: Download MIUI Flash tool.
3: Connect your phone to the laptop.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Been using Mi5 for 1 year and 3 months and overall I am pleased with the phone. I'm using LineageOS currently.
Bad things:
-battery life is average, even a bit below.
-back scratches really easily (glass version)

my mi5 is giving only 4hr 30 min of SOT is this ok or thr is any prblm in my phn?
