I have a Lenovo top model and for 2 years works with all possible excellence.
And cost like half price of brand new S8 even when was brand new its price was 399 eur.
Quality you speak of is a lie. In past we had a quality products they lasts for ages.
In present as soon as your guarantee is over your device die as well and you have to buy new one.
Or pay high cost for repair.

I wonder if when these phones eventually hit the US in a couple of years and are either sold by carriers or are easily available unlocked if the price will still stay as competitive as they are right now.

Unless you VR there is no useful difference between the two and if you VR QHD still looks horrible (IMO 4K is the minimum for VR).
I hope more manufacturers would revert to FHD, QHD is like the worst gimmick of the century.

Please note that Mi6's screen is only 5.15 inches, and with Full HD resolution its density is 428 ppi, which is practically indistinguishable (you don't stare your phone at 3-5 cms, right ?)
2. Though Mi6 is only splash-resistant, you could look at some videos at Youtube, it is more or less waterproof (for short amount of period, though). Waterproofing is only useful if you tend to take your phone for a swim .

Foxconn is anything but ethical as a look into their factories will tell you. Thus phone is essentially 98% of a flagship at less than half the cost. Water proofing is the only tangible advantage most of the flagships have over this phone. I'm not going to pay £300 more to get a waterproof phone. The ethics are not any better anyway either.

Do you know it increases the cost of production when SONY adds water and dust certification to their devices? Again, you should ask yourself why Xiaomi is keeping the full HD instead of jumping on to the QHD. They tend to give you more while they are not, it's only the battery.
I heard that the Dragon (China) utilises cheap labour at home, the West can not do that this is why apple devices tend to be expensive|| Quality, again, is better than quantity, a single house better built is more than two~Steve Jobs.
