john, 16 Mar 2022what is the point to lie? When it was new I got up to 4hrs SOT, now after 3 years if I am lucky I will get 2.5-3 hours.
Phone is great, works great, camera is good enough and yet the battery will make it unusable...

When it's brand new, I usually get +6 hours SOT, but now it's only about 3-4 hours (the phone is 3 y.o. already so it's kinda acceptable). Planning to replace the battery with 4000mah mod and use it for another 1 year since it's still buttery smooth, let's see how it goes.

People get bored and lied just because they find other new phone model..

I had this phone for almost 3 years, it was the phone that I had for the longest time (and the most expensive one as well)

Everything is great about this phone but the short battery capacity made me only have about 3h of sot on Wi-Fi 2 years later.

I did a battery replacement and got back to 5 hours but for a very short time. Not sure if it was a crappy battery or miui has some kind of config to limit the battery life (I checked the forums about it). I ended up switching for the iPhone 13 and even though it lacks the mi9 telephoto I am satisfied with it in general

Anonymous, 17 Jan 2022You don't really get a good resale value after 2 years... morethis 3300mah could even beat some 4000mah+ latest flagship..not kidding. i did a battery replacement and now its good as new it could reach 7.5hours screen on time easily.

I've had the phone for 2 years and 2 months(bought it on 2019 Nov) and I must say it's served me well.I felt the need to write a review since most reviews on GSMArena are usually/naturally of people with complaints about a given phone. Those with no issues usually don't post comments on the same as they are satisfied. The only issue I had with my Mi9 was around July last year when it kept restarting/boot looping out of the blues.... but after researching I discovered it was the power button which was stuck.I poked around the power button/freed it using a needle and my phone was back to normal.Battery life is also more like 70% of its original capacity but it still charges fast so it's not an issue.I'll continue using it till it dies or gets lost whichever comes first. If you can get one new it's still a great buy in 2022.I got mine at 23000ksh/(around USD205) back then and it's definitely the best value ever for the phone I got.Good work Mi9 production team.

Gonna keep this phone for more years! 20:9 ratio Android nowadays are sick like a remote control!

It's possible to change to 4000 mAh battery with quite a lot examples found in Chinese media. As far as I know, the size of a 4000 mAh battery is a bit larger but fits to battery space of Mi9. However, it's not recommended to change the battery as you have to unlock battery capacity limitation by flashing MIUI ROM or kernels. And this means every time you want to upgrade your phone you have to find newer kernel/Rom to unlock the limitation again. It's troublesome and time consuming....why not just replace a new battery once your find your phones battery life running low.

Silmi, 26 Nov 2021Was it possible to change batt capacity? Never knew that fact. It's not possible.. i think he changed to this 4000mah battery found on AliExpress and it is fake it is impossible to be the same size and bigger capacity... This chinese battery is fake and its capacity is lower than the original 3300 mah... Never install unoriginal part inside ur phone

Cons: battery life and CCP infested miui version. (MIUI 9 was awesome, but the ccp mandates made the newer os suck as bad as android.) I miss the stereo speaker and larger screen of the Mi Max too. Lacks an SD card, so I filled up the 128 gig drive in the first year, and had to do a hard reset. Crappy glued in/expensive to replace battery, which allows the Government to track and listen to us, even when the phone is off. The MIUI has gone way down hill since 2019, and blatantly tracks users and uses more battery.

Pros: It is a hair faster than my MiMax, but not significantly. It has more at&t bands than the MiMax, but all the T-mobile bands are still lacking.

The phone is fast, but battery life is pathetic. Also, the miui no longer can prevent apps from running in the background, even as the built in zombie tracking apps grow by the month.

I can't say enough good things about my former Xiami MiMax with the MIUI 9, 2019. My xiaomi MiMax with the older miui 9 could do the same stuff and get from 5 am to 7 pm, 14 hours. This phone battery lasts until noon, like all other android phones. Unfortunately the mi max was too thin without extra support to compensate, and it cracked in my pocke; it lacked a band too which the mi 9 has (so some dead AT&T data streets in my city, which the Mi 9 covers). Otherwise, I would say the xiami mi max was the only 5 star phone out of the 35 smart phones I have owned since 2012.

I use my phone constantly off the charger and in the field, far from a charger, starting at 5 am: calls, getting information off web, taking pictures, constantly entering calendar entries, streaming audio. So, I must put my mi 9 phone on a 40 minute quick charge to get 50% 2 times per day to get to 10 pm. I had to buy a graphene rapid charger to achieve this.

The location constantly turns itself on, which can drain the battery out in 3 hours. Also, the battery use when recording video is brutal. Not so great snapping photos on the battery.
The screen drains the battery pretty quick, which is not the fault of Xiaomi. In general rooting is forbidden to let governments track the user. This is an android problem in general, and less a xiaomi problem, except for the new, obvious ccp mandates that have crippled user control in the last 2 years.

Xiaomi does still have a built in background 3rd party app killer, which gives xiaomi a leg up over other android phone for battery life. So, I am hesitant to buy a non xiaomi phone. But the battery savings is not nearly as great as with the older, less ccp infested, miui.

I blame the ccp, not xiaomi, because battery management used to be the goal of xiaomi, as well as user ownership and control of their own phone. I also know some of the new govt mandates.
