The Mix 2 doesn't have a reason to exist. Actually Xiaomi could have named it Mix -2 because it has everything going backward. Smaller display. Smaller battery.
The reason why new smartphones or new versions are launched are 1) better faster tech inside. 2) Better features like sharper bigger screen or better camera or 3) To make a new design statement.
Mi Mix 2 does neither of the 3. It has more or less same design with lower specs than the previous version and a lower price. I feel the only reason Xiaomi thought they needed the Mix 2 was because the margins were not high enough on Mix 1 and they needed to scale down the specs drastically to improve margins at more or less same price.

If it's cheaper than s8, i will get me 1 but if s8 is only 5-10 costlier i will boo it.. I kinda prefer v30 but its €900 currently, that's huge

I hope one day Xiaomi will ship cheaper Mi Mix 2 Mini. It would have the same design and components as this one, but with 5.2 inch 1080p display, 6 GB RAM (LPDDR4X), 128 GB storage, DAB+ radio support, and 4000mAh Li-Poly battery. It would be awesome for around 300 €.

The shrink in size is the complete downfall. Why Xiaomi? Why? The special edition mi mix 2 should have 6.99 inch display and IP68 protection.

About the quality, it can happen sometimes what you mentioned, but the built quality is good, this is what reviews are saying.

Only exploiting edge to edge screen, rest camera f/2.4 worst front simple 5Mp. Rest smaller battery!

Beware.. Beware.. Beware..
Preferably not to buy Xiaomi phone again as worst ever experience with Mi Mix phone. Very worst ever earphone voice quality, Speaker is just like very irritate voice come out.
Built quality is something like strange as my phone get Screen broke while only dropped it by 6 inch of height from hand. And more wonder comes when I found that Xiaomi is not providing genuine spare support and denied to provide screen even I was ready for paying huge money for get it repair. At the time of buying I confirm with the retailer and they ensured me they will provide all the backup not on report of it, they clearly denied to provide any support. It is just like a show piece for me now for which I paid $ 800. I will ensure should not to be a paid fool again...
