Make sure to NOT set the values too high!!! You could damage phone speakers, headphones and hearing. You could set it too high and damage your hearing over time without even noticing at first. Tinnitus is a bad condition which you don't want to have. So make minor changes to the settings and use at your own risk.

Donnie , 18 Apr 2022Ok but how do I enter engineering mode please? Engineering mode is accessed by dialing *#*#3646633#*#* . There's a minimal danger to ruin your speakers / phone if changing the values to unacceptable ones (basically don't turn the volume too high and don't modify values for settings you don't understand).

And yes, obviously the overall volume of the phone will be lower if you lower the values. Does anyone really listens to music on these ridiculous speakers? For watching a movie or youtube vids the speakers are enough, but for music audition use some headphones.

As far I'm concerned, there are options to modify audio volume value for each volume level in MTK engineering mode. It is xioami fault which has forgotten to separate the value beetwen multimedia and in call mode. Just enter mtk engineering mode and lower the value for volume level 1 or 2. It should be fix the issue.

pighean, 13 Apr 2022For the problems with the in-call sound being too loud and ... moreIt works. By taping the top holes next to the audio jack and by changing the in-call volume profile from the engineer mode the sound no longer can be heard by others but is sufficiently loud to be heard by the user.

babak, 11 Apr 2022i had enough problems with this phone. sound on bluetoot... moreFor the problems with the in-call sound being too loud and lacking privacy, there might be a relatively easy two-step solution consisting in covering the top loudspeaker holes and lowering the in-call volume values from the hidden MTK settings menu. I already made the modifications and I'm currently testing the device in various conditions to see if this is a reliable "hack" or not.

I'm guessing the headphones/earbuds volume issue could be addressed in a similar manner, changing the sound output values (turning them higher) to better suit your preferences.

I'll be back with more info after I learn more.

sound on bluetooth not high. everyone can hear me in public area, charging speed with its 33w charger is not that fast. phone gets hot while watching movie.

It's also confirmed that there is an earpiece. Here are the lines referring to this:

"The earpiece [...] gets a tiny mesh where the display glass meets the frame."

"The Poco M4 Pro has a stereo speaker setup with a typical Xiaomi arrangement, where the earpiece doubles as a second channel and that top speaker fires from the top as well, not just forward through the earpiece mesh. As such, you can expect sound to spill out more easily when on a call."

After more testing I've noticed that the majority of the sound during a call comes from the top and not the side mounted earpiece. I can't even figure out if there's any sound coming from the earpiece at all, or if the entire call is blasted through the top loudspeaker.

Good specs, but a huge design flaw with the earpiece/call volume.

Too bad everyone in a radius of 10 meters can hear everything said by the person on the other end of the call even with the in-call volume turned way down. Not talking about when the phone is on speaker mode either, but in normal operation when you listen through the so called earpiece. Virtually no private calls are possible since anyone around you can hear both what you say and what your party on the other end says.

I thought it was a problem with this model of the phone and that maybe it could be fixed with an update (I was thinking maybe it was bugged and the phone routed the call to the top speaker instead of the earpiece, but I'm not even sure this phone has a separate earpiece), but it turns out the same issue was reported back in 2020 on other models too (X3, Note 8 etc). So, most probably, it's a design flaw that can't be fixed.

Bottom line is: if you want to have normal conversations in public without the people around you being able to hear everything, then look elsewhere, this phone provides little call privacy. It seems this is also true for other Xiaomi models, old and new!

After researching far and wide for a good value phone, I settled on the POCO M4 Pro and now I'm pretty disappointed nobody in any reviews mentions this obvious problem ;( I am returning mine and probably go with a Samsung A22 or something similar.
