I'd like to know whether this is an "informed" opinion backed by your knowledge on how 3rd-party manufacturers integrate Android to their Custom OS or just a plain opinion backed by uninformed expectations? You're already on the wrong boat having the expectation here. Reserve it for the Pixels, not the 3rd-party heavily customized 'droid OS.

POCO released in end of Aug 2018 with oreo 8.1 when Pie already released in first week of August 2018. in theory got 2 OS versions update. Practically one OS update.

DroidBoye, 11 Aug 2020I know. But my point is not about them being independent on... moreMy opinion is Xiaomi building the Poco brand for international market, especially for western customer. That is why even the based skin is MIUI, they develop the Poco launcher, which has apps drawer.
I would say the progress is more on the software side rather than hardware. At the end, I would say they will rebrand all the high-end Redmi smartphone as Poco brand for international market with Poco launcher, and also more LTE band for Europe country.

Vivo are more independent, while Oneplus and Realme are sub brand of OPPO. All claim are independent, but in the end, has the same parent BBK as a group company.

The current 4 smartphone brands under Xiaomi is Mi, Redmi, Poco, and MIX.
