I have been using the phone for almost two months now and my here are thoughts.
Pros:
- Great build quality
- Superb audio
- Screen is pretty good
- Considering the price point, the performance is excellent
Cons:
- Battery life is pretty bad under load. The battery drains particularly fast if the Mobile HotSpot is activated
- Main Camera is passable, but not very good. Selfie camera is just fine
I still think this device is just great value for money. You get a very solid phone for the price and there is no doubt here. That said, if you are a power user and do not wish to make any compromises, I would recommend you to increase your budget a bit and go for some of the pricier Xiaomi devices, which come with SD 6xx chipsets and 3GB+ RAM. These have better battery life, performance and camera.
If your budget is tight - do not hesitate and grab the 5A, you will not regret it one bit.

Just bought one to hold me over until my Sony Xperia Z5 Dual Premium is fixed or I buy a new one. So far, so good. Very low on memory, about 10 GB of 16 is used by phone. Too many junk apps that cannot be removed.
Photos/videos not very good quality. Will eventually root this phone and leave as a spare for visitors etc. Can't wait to get my Z5 back!

redmi 5a battery drain faster than redmi 4x, about 2% faster.
from 100%; if redmi 4x battery drain to 94%, redmi 5a battery will drain to 92% or more at the same time.
i have both phones.

I just bought the phone almost a week ago. For a regular use (mostly for SMS, calling and light data use) it lasted 1.5 - 2 days. Heavy usage ( Streaming and online/offline gaming ) it consumed 40% of battery in 2-3 hours.

very very good phone for its budget friendly all hail for the entry level king! XIAOMI FOR LIFE.(but maintain the cheap price of course to be a competitive brand in the market) :)
