rolandschweiger, 15 May 2023 BTW in Waze i get the same problem: compass not working. A... moreYou need to disable Google Maps & maybe some unused Preinstalled Apps like Facebook, Tiktok, Youtube etc. So Android won't detect them as default. Install Mi Shortcut Maker In Google Playstore as it can access hidden App Manager that can disable Preinstalled Apps/System Apps of Miui.

The Sad User, 15 May 2023An atrocious camera, ruined my vacation. Almost every shot ... moremaybe your device's AutoFocus is defective or are there really so many differences from device to device?
In my opinion the camera setup is actually pretty decent, a good compromise, definately not one of the very very best but good for holiday / vacation anyhow. My personal opinion on the cameras after having used the RN10Pro for about 2 years:
1. The ultrawide camera is good under normal and decent light conditions and it can shoot usable videos.
2. the MAIN CAMERA is actually pretty good if you get some ... as we would say in German "Fingerspitzen-Gefühl". On my device the AutoFocus works well but if i really want, there is a FULL PRO MODE available and not many phones have that. In the PRO you can focus manually + use focus-peaking, and you can do long exposures and fiddle around with the combination of WB, ISO + shutter-time. E.g. if you want to take a photo of something at night and have a tripod or the phone very stable on some object, you might want to set a low ISO so that there is less image-noise (which mostly shows as some kind of purple irregular dots) und hence here use longer exposure. Or if the objects e.g. are moving, you might try higher ISO (resulting in more image noise) BUT setting shorter exposure time which can give a clearer image.
From feeling ... i mostly use the automatic setting on the main camera, with 3:4 and AI turned OFF and HDR on AUTO and flash most of the time turned off. And most of the shots actually are ok.
VIDEO QUALITY on main camera: i only use it in 1920 x 1080 at 30 fps. And H.265 encoding. Although the phone has no optical stabilisation, the EIS (the software version of stabilisation) is actually pretty good in this mode, and don't count this out. E.g. driving in a bus over a bumpy road and filming freehand out of the window does give smooth results without the viewer getting disy. I like the video quality of the main camera.
Macro : it has 5 MP and a true focus which can be auto or manual, and it can record video. For those who need macro (i sometimes do as i am visually impaired) this is actually one of the better macro cameras.
Front camera : i don't use it much but it is ok for normal selfies and videos; cannot really compare this one but it does a normal job.
Besides the cameras, in my experience the phone has good radio quality. Switching seemlessly between 3G / 4G works good and Vo-LTE / Vo-WiFi does it good, switching seemlessly during a phone call. Yes this should be standard default nowadays but i know of phone brands where these things are worse implemented. The stereo speakers are good, screen quality is ok, overall experience is snappy --- i still like the phone and no ... xiaomi does not pay me for that, it is my experience and i like a good combination of price + useful hardware and xiaomi i think did a good job here.
And don't forget it is a true dual-SIM + SD Card phone. Yes i know that SD cards can die from one min to the other and i now have the 256GB variant of the fon without using an sd card, yet especially on a holiday, trip etc. there might be a situation where you would want an sd card **and** a second SIM. i am happy with the device and the problem with google maps will definately be solved one day...

An atrocious camera, ruined my vacation. Almost every shot is poorly focused (seems like a problem for Xiaomi in general and I hadn't such issues with Huawei). People, don't trust those reviewers on Youtube or here - you will be better off buying a more premium phone instead of this piece of you know what. It's not worth neither the hype, nor the money I spent.

Anonymous, 15 May 2023I don't use google maps(disabled) but Waze so far no i... more BTW in Waze i get the same problem: compass not working. As stated, only in Google Maps GO (which is aparantly a type of web-app or instant-app) when starting a pedestrian navigation, the compass works fine. it actually also works fine in most other app except the classical full blown Google Maps. sure they'll fix it one day but it is a strange thing.

rolandschweiger, 15 May 2023Thanks for the hint - this is ever so strange. :-) Installe... moreso the only way to make "Google Maps GO" some kind of default is aparantly to CLEAR the default status of "Google Maps". Then when i go into any contact of my address book and tap on the street-address inside the addressbook, it will prompt "which app" and i can set "google maps GO". Bun when inside the addressbook and tapping the navigation-symbol next to the street address, it will **always** default to Google Maps (the default google maps). Oh oh why is Xiaomi + Google things so so buggy?? I mean the whole thing is mathematically / technically sooooo complex and then it is the relatively simple stuff that does not work properly :-(

Anonymous, 15 May 2023I don't use google maps(disabled) but Waze so far no i... moreThanks for the hint - this is ever so strange. :-) Installed Google Maps Go - generally same problem, map can only center but will not swing / rotate into direction in which i am heading. Inside Google Maps GO. i then entered navigation as pedestrian and i was asked to install a type of navigation plugin from playstore, to me it seems that Google Maps GO + Go Navigation are a type of add-on/plug-in to google Maps. Anyhow as soon as i started the pedestrian navigation inside google maps GO. the rotation of the map works fine - even indoor. Bat back in the standard google maps app,. it does not work.
now i am trying to get my redmi note 10 pro to use Google Maps GO as default app for navigation ... no luck so far. in settings ---> apps ---> default apps there is no navigation.
Well ... i overall really like google and maps but aparantly together with xiaomi they are messing a few things up 8nfortunately, but it can only get better :)

Anonymous, 13 May 2023Just recently bought this phone with a 8/256GB variant. Did... moresame here; i own the 8/256 variant and just bought one for my neigbour and finished setting it up. The phones become more difficult to get (in Central Europa) - Amazon sometimes does not offer them at all, then pricy. i got one from csmobiles fpr EUR 250,- which i consider good.
The phone of my neibbour works really fine and is the same (global) variant than mine.
Only remaining problem : The google map map not rotating with the compass. Since i did a factory reset here (after updating to MIUI 14) everything went from scratch and the google map mpa did rotate for the first few minutes (rotating into the direction in which i am pointing the device) then after a few minutes it "got stuck" and no longer will rotate. Hope some day they will fix the problem, whoe ever fault it is ... google or xiaomi.
All in all i consider this still a BLILLIANT DEVICE mith most interfaces including the infrared port.
Also on my SIM Card, the WiFi-Call / VoWifi and the Vo-LTE / voice over LTE work really well and there is seemless switching between, when moving out and about. This makes REGULAR CALLS attractive once again, e.g. instead of Whatsapp calls.
Still can recommend this device.

Even if it's a nice device, especially the camera and the screen, and with MIUI 14 things are still better, it has a nasty tendency to overheat. After some light Internet browsing messing around for some minutes with Google Maps, a few minutes of gaming, and toying with the camera app just seeing the available modes and organizing things it feels quite warm to the touch -the CPU sensors give more than 60° according to AIDA64-, when a Redmi Note 9 Pro in the same conditions almost breaks no sweat.
I don't know it's a hardware issue or related to MIUI, even if battery usage is OK, but things do not look good for extended, intensive, usage and/or under hot weather.

Just recently bought this phone with a 8/256GB variant. Did all updates(MIUI14) after opening it from the box then an annual factory reset. No bugs/glitches so far since then & can last a day or 2 maybe more with casual usage. I'm not a heavy gamer but I do play some casual games like wordscape, etc. that aren't so intensive.
Best thing about this phone is it takes pretty good pictures specially the macro cam w/c also does decent macro pictures. Doesn't overheat recording 4k vids for more than 10min, though I haven't pushed it too far yet.
Selfie cam is okay & acceptable.
So overall, a good purchase for me!

Miui updates are often disaster . Latest miui 14 is also causing problems for users.. so do not update to miui 14.. stick to miui 13.0.16 global .. this is the most stable version with no problems.. phones runs smooth with long battery life.. if possible keep a backup of ur data on pc ... And factory reset the device after miui 13.0.16 global.. force close or uninstall apps u dont use .. everything will run smooth piece of mind

If I only ever figured out how to stop the random battery drain I get overnight, this would be a perfect smartphone for its price bracket. Nowadays I'm just looking for something else to upgrade to, but options aren't too many or better in other departments.
