Vivo, Realme and Infinix are out of the question as they are not widely distributed and supported in the UK. Oppo Reno12 is out of the question too as it has curved screen which i do not like.

I need to decide which one to get.
Galaxy A54 - poor PWM dimming, saturated (? inaccurate colours), very good selfies, slow battery charging
Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G / Poco X6 - Excellent performance, excellent battery capacity/life, so-so ? accurate colours for main camera, poor selfies
Xiaomi 13T - Excellent performance, excellent battery life, outstanding Leica cameras for main, poor selfies
So, if it was an everyday phone for above average performance, all-around cameras, above average battery which one would you choose with a bit of compromise?

Gino76ph, 01 Aug 2024I think these three phones don't know how to do selfie... moreDepends on your own personal taste when it comes to cameras. If you have a store nearby (like in some malls) wherein you can test the camera of the phone you want to buy and compare it to others, it's much better rather than asking someone's own personal preferences. Some of them will just give you an answer based on the phone's brand and not the quality. Some are bias. But I assure you, since I am currently using this Note 13 Pro, I personally don't like the selfie camera. Super pale. I like Samsung's where it have lively colors. Again, it depends on your taste.

As for phones with better selfie cameras for the same price range, or maybe even cheaper, there's a couple options, but keep in mind these prices are based on where I live converted to pounds. They also may not be available where you live:

        - Vivo V30 (£290)
        - Oppo Reno12 (£338)
        - Samsung Galaxy A55 (£250)
        - Samsung Galaxy S23 FE (£350)
        - Infinix Zero 30 5G (£250)
        - iPhone 11 (£290)

False, its Default refresh rate setting can switch between 30Hz, 60Hz, 120Hz, or 144Hz.

"Cameras are worse than a Galaxy A54?"

Heck no, the Galaxy A54 produces very oversaturated, blurry and unnatural photos. The selfie camera is better on the A54, that's just about it, the rest of the phone is way inferior compared to the 13T.

"RAM and app management is poor leading to so-so battery life."

No way to prove that. If anything, Xiaomi has overly aggressive battery management leading to background apps restarting/shutting down if you don't use them for a while, unless you go through the settings and change each individual apps' "Battery saver" setting.

I've extensively compared the 13T and Nord 3, and they both capture very similar selfies, very similarly mediocre selfies that is - colors and dynamic range are good, but details aren't great.

But a rather big downside for the Nord 3 is the lack of EIS for 4K video recording. The 13T is an easy winner in this regard.

The Nord 3 can also get rather hot and suffer from thermal throttling. I didn't experience the same on the 13T, which stays decently cool at most times, and has very little thermal throttling to speak of.

The only downside is it would appear the Nord 3 has an inferior Dragontrail glass in the front. If i was to replace my OnePlus 10T with GG5 my next phone should have a front glass better then the 10T.
                    Any advice / recommendations?

Just bought a second hand redmi note 13 pro and so far so good, its an excellent buy for the money.
I have a question: when using a standard camera, how many px are we talkin about?
Because if u want to use the 200mpx camera u have to choose this option, so does that mean that when using the standard One the pixels are less?

I would say the 13T, it is IP68 certified, has better thermals, and a telephoto camera. Photos are also a lot clearer and have more accurate colors compared to the Nord 3.

OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite vs Redmi Note 13 Pro:

Redmi Note 13 Pro, no contest. It has a better display, faster processor, much better main camera, an ultrawide camera, 4K video recording, and an IR blaster. The Snapdragon 695 on Nord CE4 Lite has pretty bad image processing much like the Moto G84. The Nord also only has 1 usable rear camera, accompanied by a pointless depth sensor that's even more useless than a macro lens, so I can't recommend it for photographers.

Replacing my Moto G84 i've decided to invest in either a Nord CE4 Lite or a Redmi Note 13 Pro.
All phones are within my budget somewhat if we consider their current discounted prices.
Any thoughts or comments on these?

Gino76ph, 26 Jul 2024System updates does not necessarily include quality of life... moreXiaomi does have their own app store, it's called "GetApps". Though you can also update system apps via Settings -> System apps updater. However, some apps may only be updated through system updates and not via their store.

I've been a Xiaomi user ever since the Redmi 1S back in 2014, and even I can't answer how often they push out system updates because I don't pay attention to them.

However, I currently own a Poco X6 Pro and so far it has received 2 security updates since it came out back in January this year. It launched with a December 2023 security patch, then gets updated to February 2024, then April 2024. So it looks like it gets updated every 2 months.

Are you aware Xiaomi has an app store similar to Samsung where they (presumably) updates their 1st-party stuff like Camera, Gallery, Security apps, etc.?
Updates are so important especially these days and if an OEM cannot even give us a straight answer (as to frequency and inclusions) and keep dishing out phones that are 60% better than last year's but 40% are either same specs or inferior specs then people will just not bother buying them and sticking to traditional players like Samsung, Motorola, Sony, etc.?

Williamzzz, 24 Jul 2024Yes, the Xiaomi 13T was promised to have 4 years of Android... moreUpdates remain ambiguous. If Android releases it's latest OS how long we will have to wait? And how often the security updates will be pushed? Monthly? Quarterly? Again, these have not been clarified and answered.
DXO Mark are being paid to review phones. Most if not all camera reviews are only for the main camera lenses. The ultrawide and selfie cameras are not included.
The main camera is obviously the main star of the show. But i still find Xiaomi puts old inferior low-specced ultrawide cameras that show inconsistent colour and sharpness than that of the main. And selfie cameras also remain appalling - not talking about having no 4K recording but the megapixel count is low (w/ pixel binning), old sensors, no 1080p/60 the very least, colours are not accurate, unnecessary beauty mode that softens skin (in western culture that is not accepted), poor low light..i could go on.

I've owned a Poco X3 Pro for 3 years and I can't remember the last time they updated those three apps you mentioned. I'm not one to pay attention to those things in my lifetime. But as long as the phone is still getting software updates, it should still be getting quality-of-life updates as well.

Just don't expect those updates to be frequent in typical Xiaomi fashion. They may have extended their software support, but they still haven't changed how often they give software and quality-of-life updates. So expect something like the Camera app to receive only 1 or 2 updates during the 13T's 5-year lifespan, or none at all. That's the price you gotta pay.

Since it was released last year with Android 13, it should get Android updates until Android 17 and security updates until 2028.

As far as the cameras go, Xiaomi have definitely improved compared to a couple years ago, and the 13T is one of the best camera phones for the price. DxOMark even ranks it higher than older flagships including the iPhone 12/12 Mini, Galaxy S21 Ultra, and Pixel 6a.

In conclusion, yes this phone will still get software updates (up until 2028), and the cameras are fantastic. Just don't expect a flagship-level experience because the 13T is still a midrange phone. It's still an arguably better phone than most of what the competition has to offer even in 2024, especially when you can find it for a good price.
