Major Android version update :
1. Entry level phone will get or will not get 1 major android version update but most of its
will not get it.
2. Midrange phone will get 1 major android version update but sometimes some of its will
gets more than 1 major android version update but its rarely happen. Redmi Note 3 are
in this type.
3. Premium, high end and flagship phone will get 2 major android version update but
sometimes some of it will get more than 2.
But there are some OEM (phone manufacturer) will not give any major android update to its phones doesn't matter on which type. The conclusion is the more money we pay for the phone the more major android version update we will get. The OEM dont want to wasting their resource on upgrading their cheaper phone that has been sold to end user like us.

RJ, 16 Oct 2017Anyone knows when the MIUI 9 is coming for Redmi Note 3? Why to ask for update when it's making this beauty messy. Am on 8.5 global stable so far last few updates have just added misery to software slowing down, rare but app crashes, faster battery drainage. I would downgrade for sure if new update isnt fluid and bug free

You can purchase it. It may last for 2.5 years. Function and features are stunning. Camera is outstanding but sometimes I get bother when it starts working in low grade.

Ram, 19 Oct 2017I have successfully downgraded from 8.5.6.0 to 8.2.4.0.go t... moreU may have to face issues like no signal and unable to use device until you factory reset. Hard to factory reset cz u have no access to keyboards for mi account password. Extreamly not recomended to this.
