There's already the redmi 4 prime with the same specs... this phone seems just useless... It's doesn't justify an upgrade from redmi note 3 pro... what a shame...

AnonD-565120, 24 Jan 2017How is the audio quality through headphone jack? Is it bett... moreI'm using a Samsung earphone on the Redmi Note 4. I've used the same earphone with my Redmi Note 3. Don't feel a difference in audio quality. It's same. I've switched on Mi Sound Enhancer and selected Mi-InEar Pro as that is the best audio settings for listening to music via the 3.5mm Jack as per me. I think audio quality in earphones or headphones depends on the quality of the earphones or headphones that you're gonna use and their comparability with the phone to some extent.

I got the phone today morning from Flipkart. I sold my Redmi Note 3 a few weeks ago to buy the Redmi Note 4 (4GB RAM, 64 GB ROM) Gold Colour. I wanted the Dark Grey or Matte Black variant but couldn't get a hold of. Here's my short review-
1. Design and build quality is much better than Redmi Note 3. It feels good to hold. The top and bottom caps are again plastic like the Redmi Note 3. Personally I wished the top and bottom part would have been made of metal like the rest of the body. Loudspeaker position has changed from the back to the bottom and it's a nice upgrade from the Redmi Note 3 because the sound won't get muffled.
2. It has 5.5 inch Full HD IPS display and 2.5D Curved Glass. No mention of any screen protection so better use a screen guard. Display is very much same as Redmi Note 3 with accurate colors although a bit saturated. Visibility under sunlight is good but the panel is pretty reflective so under sunlight, the screen appears washed out. You can change the colour and contrast of the display and there's reading mode built-in. Overall, the display is nice. If you have used Redmi Note 3, you won't feel much difference in display quality.
3. On the 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM variant, around 2 GB RAM is free on the first boot and 56 GB internal memory free. You can also use a MicroSD card to expand the storage but since this phone has a Hybrid SIM slot, you can either use 2 SIMs at a time or 1 SIM and MicroSD card at a time so if you intend to use MicroSD Card you can't use 2 SIM Cards. OTG is supported and works well. Reading and writing speeds are good on the internal memory.
4. It has Snapdragon 625 Octa Core Processor which has 8 ARM Cortex A53 Cores with Adreno 506 GPU and is built on a modern 14nm power efficient processor. I got 61K on Antutu benchmark. Didn't experience any lag so far in normal apps but graphics intensive games take a bit to load. Good thing is the phone doesn't heat up much. Snapdragon 625 lacks behind the Snapdragon 650 Hexa Core processor built on an old 28nm process on the Redmi Note 3 which has 4 ARM Cortex A53 Cores and 2 Performance ARM Cortex A72 Cores in terms of pure performance. The Snapdragon 650 in Redmi Note 3 scores around 75K on Antutu whereas the Snapdragon 625 scores around 60K on Antutu benchmark.
5. If you have used the Redmi Note 3 or any Redmi phone, you would be familiar with the software. The phone is running MIUI 8 based on Android Marshmallow and will receive Nougat update soon. The UI is heavily customized with lots of features. MIUI is one reason I like Redmi phones as I like customizing every aspect of my phone, particularly settings.
6. The phone has usual sensors like accelerometer, proximity, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, compass, fingerprint sensor, infrared sensor. The fingerprint sensor is pretty accurate and fast, no problem at all. You can use the fingerprint sensor to click selfies and pictures, locking apps etc. It is an always on sensor, just place your finger and the phone will unlock. You can use the infrared sensor as a remote to control electronic appliances.
7. Camera is like a hit or miss affair in Redmi Note 4. If you remember, camera was the main weakness on Redmi Note 3 and story continues. There's 13MP Rear Camera with PDAF, F2.0 Aperture, Dual Tone LED Flash. Front camera is 5 MP. Pictures in daylight come out nice but lack clarity and detail. HDR Mode works quite okay. Low light pictures are not so good with the flash. There's Slow-Motion videos recording option but the recorded slow motion videos look like upscaled videos with apparent jagged lines. It can record upto Full HD Videos. Front camera is same like Redmi Note 3. Overall the camera is pretty average, it's same or worse than Redmi Note 3.
8. On the connectivity front the phone has 4G, 3G, 2G, VoLTE, Dual SIM (Hybrid SIM Slot), Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS with GLONASS etc. Unfortunately Redmi Note 4 doesn't have as many 4G bands support as the Redmi Note 3 or maybe it has support for other bands but aren't activated intentionally by Xiaomi. Jio 4G and VoLTE works well, no issue. I have Airtel SIM as my second SIM but for some reasons, Airtel 4G doesn't work for me. If I select Prefer LTE Mode on the second SIM then it switches to 3G. I don't know if it's just me facing this issue. So anyone else having issue with Airtel 4G on the Redmi Note 4?
9. Sound quality through the loudspeaker is clear and loud. Nothing exceptional. In call sound is good but a little low I feel.
10. It has 4000 mAh non removable battery, same as its predecessor. Unfortunately fast charging isn't supported. It took me around 2 hours 40 minutes for full charge with the supplied charger. Battery life is very good on the Redmi Note 4, thanks to the Snapdragon 625 power efficient processor. As of writing this review, I've 70℅ battery left and the phone has been switched on since 3 hour 50 minutes so I got a SOT of almost 4 Hours at the expense of 30℅ battery.
Overall, I think Redmi Note 4 is a pretty much a downgrade from the Redmi Note 3 and I regret selling my Redmi Note 3 for it. I would say design is the only front which has seen an improvement and is a step up from the Redmi Note 3 design. So if you've Redmi Note 3, there's very little reason to upgrade. In the end, it's upto you to decide.

Anonymous, 23 Jan 2017Lenovo P2 offers AMOLED at 17k INR same processorDiscussion is if Xiaomi can give AMOLED and SD 625 at 12999/-???
Cheapest available is lenovo and latest costly piece is VIVO V5+.
Hence a phone with AMOLED and SD 625 can never be less than 17000/-, unless some corners are cut and quality standards diluted to achieve the mark.
