seems like SAR value is still 1.6 and that's the upper limit allowed in India... I am sure at least it can be reduced by a little

Unfortunately, this series will not replace the popular Note 4 model in any way.
For the many reasons most have said.
I'm sorry for Xiaomi Inc . It was a bad day today. i'm very disapointing.
If someone wants to change the phone. This model is not worth the purchase .(220 euro)
i think Mi note 3 is the best and much more better than RN5 pro
Mi 5s/Mi 5s plus amd MI A1 are much better than RN5 pro
It seems that Xiaomi aims to sell highs to the Indian market and has not paid any attention to the opinions of others in recent months.

Looks like they changed Redmi 4's design a little. Only difference is no soft keys,18:9 screen and a traffic light on back. They copied iPhone x's camera positioning but they forgot that they have rounded corners and edges. Camera is just on the edge of rounded edge so it looks ugly. Also positioning of finger print scanner is bit higher. Camera should be a bit far from left edge and fingerprint reader little bit below. But specs are good. In terms of price its a good phone.

that's funny . In the coming days, you can see the bad quality of this Camera phone with other models xiaomi ( Mi 5s/Mi 5s plus/Mi Note 3/Mi A1/Redmi Note 4)
                really disapointing.

I don't know why Xiaomi always Copy "APPLE" in terms of software (skin UI) as well as in hardware (built in terms)

Xiaomi has failed to appreciate one of the main justifications for the 18:9 aspect ratio.

Of course, in principle, the 18:9 aspect ratio has some uses. For example keyboards in portrait mode obscure a lower proportion of content on screen; there is more room for content that requires scrolling, such as reading/web browsing; and in landscape, there is more width for side-by-side apps.

However, tall phones do create ergonomic problems, not only with trying to reach the top of the screen one-handed, but also in terms of pocketability and possibly also in terms of maintaining a secure grip.

It is pretty clear that the mass move to 18:9 is one of those industry-driven forced "choices", designed to ensure that people feel their existing device is so out of fashion that they must replace it.

Be that as it may, the switch makes most sense if, as a manufacturer, you think that, starting with previous 16:9 aspect ratio devices with chunky bezels, you can maintain a similar height of the phone by replacing the top and bottom bezels with screen. Another choice (if ignoring the desire to position your older devices as obsolete) would be to make the device shorter.

In the case of devices with a 5.5 inch 16:9 screen, such as the Redmi Note 4, a screen with the same width in portrait mode, but with an 18:9 aspect ratio, should have a 6.02 inch diagonal. The Redmi Note 5 Pro has a 5.99 inch diagonal, so it is pretty close to maintaining the same width of screen.

However, what Xiaomi has done here is to produce a very tall phone, because it still has sizable top and bottom bezels, in addition to the extra height implied by the new aspect ratio.

The Mi Mix 2, for example, has the same size screen, 5.99 inches in 18:9, yet it is only 151.8 mm tall, compared with 158.6 mm for the Note 5 Pro. The Redmi Note 4 is 151 mm tall. The LG G3 was another 5.5 inch 16:9 device and it is only 146.3 mm tall, and although it has relatively small top and bottom bezels, it would certainly be possible to make an even shorter device at this screen size. The actual screen height of 5.5 inch 16:9 screens is 121.7 mm, while that of a 5.99 inch 18:9 screen is 136mm.

The Mi Mix 2 has 15.8 mm of height in its top and bottom bezels, which if maintained on a phone with 16:9 aspect ratio (possibly more difficult), could result in a 5.5 inch phone at 137.5 mm in height.

For people who were happy with 5.5 inch 16:9 screens, Xiaomi has produced something with very different ergonomics. It has not only switched to a taller aspect ratio, but it has also ignored the short-bezel trend, creating a phone that is about 2cm taller in height than a putative short-bezel 16:9 Redmi Note, at least 6.8mm of which is surplus bezel relative to the Mi Mix 2, one of the leading short-bezel designs.

I understand this is a lower-midrange phone, and therefore may not receive as much attention to design as more expensive models. However, the Redmi Note series has hitherto been about practicality. With the Redmi Note 5 Pro, Xiaomi has chased a trend, yet failed to implement it with a coherent design.

(Another version of this comment was submitted anonymously, but was not appearing, so I am trying again.)
