I got the global unit for myself and wifey got the local release which have notable program differences. You can shut ads down in various ways, just learn how for yourself because it seems to vary depending on locale and provider you use. We got ours when they first came out and have been using them hard ever since, late 2019 I think that was, and they're still going strong.

Bought the 128gb variant in early 2020, upgrading from the Redmi 3S Prime. Recently upgraded to the Samsung S21 FE. The Redmi Note 8 served me well until it started popping full screen ads out of nowhere. I liked the device and it still works, albeit with a bit of a bloated battery and much less battery life compared to the one and a half days I used to get when it was new. It was a real value for money and I don't mind a bit of bloatware, but it was the unnecessary full screen ads out of nowhere that steered me away from Xiaomi. The outrageous gimmicky camera setups of new budget and midrangers also kinda played a part. Anyway, I was satisfied with the service the device gave me the last 3-4 years.

no bad thoughts, I'm just going to give my opinion about the note 8 and I'll make a small comparison with the Honor 8X from February 2019 because I have these 2 phones, as for the Note 8 when I bought it for my wife in May 2019 and in the store window it was very beautiful Moonlight White and I can add that it has an excellent bright display and that's where the good features end because this one is beautiful with good hardware, but the MIUI operating system is most likely made for speed and is messy and full of ads that slow down the phone, when I compare it to the Honor 8X which is in the same range with a similar price, Honor is twice as fast in all operations, so I don't know how to be satisfied when you have to waste time removing adds and every upgrade was with some problems and even a software crash, all those problems do not exist with Honor it is simply a harmonious phone that today works perfectly as it did the first day, that's why I stick to what has been tested and when I buy my next phone it will definitely be Honor.

In Oct 2019 after many days search and comparison between different mobile models that time I decided to buy Redmi not 8, coz that time in this price only xiaomi offer good features and protection like coring gorilla glass 5 in reasonable price. I use this cell last 5 year and only 1 time cell going to service center due to software crash and reinstall the whole software. now a days I'll considering new cell phone coz I need more fast processor with protection, surprisingly I'll shocked now a days same feature of Redmi not 8 not available in any midrange cell phone model and if I want these features with same protections then It is necessary to buy some semi flagship mobile models in high price comparing to Redmi not 8

Honor 100 Pro is a complete phone in it`s price and better than other phones at this price. But I am worried about one thing. I'm not sure if it will have global release or not, what do you think? I can`t wait for Honor 100 series. Are you sure Honor 100 Pro will have global version or it`s only for China`s market?

Now Honor is one of my favorites too and is one of my options. 4 years ago when i wanted to buy a new phone I was stuck bitween Honor 8X and Note 8 but because of Xiaomi's deceptive numbers and features and cheap price also Note 8 was newer and had Snap Dragon 665 chipset. I chose the Note 8 and later regretted why I didn't choose the Honor 8X and I lost real quality. Good for you that you bought Honor 8X. I will use your advice and probably I will buy Honor`s mid-renge phone for now but later i will go for Honor`s flagship phones. actually i fell in love with Honor Magic 5 series in last year and now Honor Magic 6 Pro. It`s my most favorite phone. I will get a flagship phone from Honor in future.
