The worst phone that you can ever buy. Instead go buy an older and cheaper version of iPhone or Samsung from 5 years ago, still will be better than this.
The only positive is the endurance of it. It will not break no matter what you do and you will not need to replace it. Don't buy it, never again anything from xiami!

A HUGE rant, but here goes...

(This is my experience of the Redmi Note 9 3/64 Model, it might be different if you have a better configuration)

This has got to be the WORST smartphone experience in my life by far. This phone is borderline unusable to me for the following reasons.
1) The phone really, and I mean "really", likes to freeze, even just doing everyday tasks; browse social media apps for a while --> freeze, play games (that's not even that demanding) --> freeze, use the camera app --> freeze, load a heavy web page using chrome --> freeze. And believe me, I tried to make it usable (because it's my phone, after all), I tried clearing apps after I don't need to use them from my recent, I tried clearing the RAM, I tried to use it normally without clearing the RAM, I tried both turning on and off the virtual memory feature, I tried factory resetting, all of them to no avail and eventually coming to the same conclusion, freeze.

2) Retainment of apps. Whenever I tried to switch apps to do other things and switch back to the app I was using, It will be very likely that the app that you were using will have to reload. This makes me have to be careful on what I chose to do on my phone. For example, I got an email from someone, I clicked the notification to read and perhaps reply to that email. When I come back to what I was doing. The thing just decides to reload and I lose track of what I was doing. Very annoying.

3) The camera. For whatever reason, when taking pictures using 1x level zoom, the picture will come out blurry. Only when I use 2x, then the picture is significantly clearer, but then I'd have to walk out to get more field of view which is just ridiculous. Also, when scanning QR codes using the camera app, I have to walk so close into the QR code for it to register, even though I can zoom into to it and see it just fine. Also, did I mention that it'd freeze sometimes when I used the camera app?

And you know what is the best part? All of the above issue persists throughout MIUI 11 to 13, without any meaningful fix. What a joke.

And I know some of you might think "Hey, I don't have that problem!". Well, first of all, mine is the 3/64 model, which admittedly, is the worst one out of all the possible configurations. However, Xiaomi shouldn't release a phone if it is this bad. Even if it's cheap. This is just unusable and shows the lack of care to the customers. This thing is so bad that I wouldn't even wish my worst enemy to use this phone.... You know what, never mind that. I wanted my worst enemy to use this phone, so that they can suffer haha.

Also, I aware that custom rom exists, but It is way too inconvinience for me to it, also I do not want to risk the possibility of not being able to use banking apps.

Now, to be fair to this phone. The one saving grace it has is it's battery. It has one of the best battery life in a smartphone I've ever experienced. I can go a whole day with a full charge with somewhat moderate use, with some juice remaining at the end of the day. And the SoT is quite impressive, too.

With that said, It has been long since I had moved on to another phone by now (about half a year, and no it's not a Xiaomi). And I could fully said that it was one of the most liberating feelings I've had in a while. No more have I had to deal with the freezes, the camera is much better and the performance of the new phone is just miles better than this mess. It speaks volume on how bad this thing was when I still remember how bad it was when I used it, even after more than 6 months. What a shame.

akioh, 20 May 2023how many times do you have to charge the phone per day?This is very nice. I am using 3 years 4gb ram but this phone using smooth. I am one day charge 3 times . this time use no problem small lag coming enother no issues

Too many fanatics he... moreI'm assuming it's the basic version with 3GB of RAM, since I have a Redmi 9 that shares the same SoC with the Note 9 and suffers similar problems. Including to have once had the phone so messed up after opening Gcam that it crashed and ended calling emergency services, trying to reset it.

The problem there is MIUI 13 (and probably Android 12 too, knowing each new version eats more system resources), that has turned the phone into a mess even after a factory reset once it updated, when in a previous version was quite usable. MIUI 13 first and MIUI 14 now work much better on a Note 9 Pro (bought second-hand, so Xiaomi did not get extra monies), especially the latter, with twice as much RAM.

Since both the Redmi 9 and Note 9 will supposedly receive the MIUI 14 I'm waiting to see if the update fixes somewhat the former. If not, time to unlock bootloader and try a custom ROM.

I had the opportunity to use this phone because my mom was about to throw it. Imagine, my mom, not a techie person, hates this phone 😂 and so I kept it and tried some tweaks to improve its performance. But to no avail, meh, still a trash phone.
Plenty of bugs:
-the sound on the speaker will suddenly not work
-the pop-up notification from some apps does not work even the notification sound
-the sound will sometimes not work when using earphones or headsets, wired or wireless.
-playing videos and reels on FB will totally freeze the phone, you need to restart it by holding the power button.
-opening the camera will freeze it sometimes
-overlaying apps will sometimes destroy the phone resolution and app alignment on the screen
-multitasking is impossible, background apps will be killed when minimized
-vibration will sometimes not work on different instances that it should be triggered
-no split screen
-RAM depletes fast that browsing through a page or app will cause lag
-uploading files or pictures on webpages or apps is a hard task since when you minimize the 0age to select a file, it will kill the minimized app
-too many apps that are not compatible
-playing music while reading, gaming, browsing or any other task is impossible. The music will be choppy which is annoying
-the camera is always blurry and takes time to focus,whilst if you use Gcam, the camera is so laggy that it is impossible to capture fast, when you press the shutter of Gcam, it will load first then the picture will be taken after 5-10 seconds. Worst case, the screen will freeze

akioh, 20 May 2023how many times do you have to charge the phone per day?I normally need to charge the phone from 0 to 1 times per day.

3 years with the mobile and keeps working perfectly well. Very content with it.
