ZTE's upcoming flagship to be called Axon 7; unveiling set for May 26

Himanshu, 12 May, 2016

While we were expecting it to be called the Axon 2, ZTE's next flagship will in fact be called the Axon 7. This was revealed after the company sent out invites for an event set for May 26. The invite clearly mentions the Axon 7 moniker.

Now, exactly why ZTE decided to call the Axon successor as Axon 7 is currently not known. Perhaps, the Chinese company wants the device to be seen as a direct competitor to the Galaxy 7 or the upcoming iPhone 7. Or there could a different reason altogether.

Anyway, moving on, the invite also contains a caption "Listening to the heart of power," whatever that means (could be something related to the device's audio output, but we aren't really sure at the moment).

In case you missed, the phone was recently teased by the company's CEO Zeng Xuezhong on Weibo. The teaser image basically compared the bottom of the Axon 2 with that of the iPhone 6s and the Huawei P9.

The device has also been cleared by TENAA, revealing some of its key specs, including Snapdragon 820 SoC, 5.5" QHD OLED panel, 4GB/64GB memory configuration, and 20MP/8MP camera combo. Rumored price of the device is $599.

I just hope there still will be enough Chinese brands out there keeping prices low and affordable.

Yeah, but technical are getting better and better. So it is obvious to get more expensive.
