28 October, 2014
The Japanese company is apparently already developing the super high resolution panels.

Today 4K is useless, since other display devices (tv, monitors) and movies are based on FHD.

In 2016, the situation may be different. Maybe 4K resolution will be already standard display resolution.
In such case also small devices will benefit from 4K, to watch movies and connect to other displays.

      I will definitely try a Phablet !

You need fuel, then you need the machinery, then you need the product; the product is the display, the machinery is the GPU and the fuel is the battery. What's the point in having a product that eats through the fuel using the machinery in a few hours. The battery is what needs upgrading first.

A5X in the year 2012 is already fully capable of running past FHD screen.

The best China makers can do now is to dump as much tech as possible at the cheapest avail price. They have little control in software end.

However I do agree with you on a lobe sided development. Only the King knows the best combo for HW/SW.

Let's be honest. Like, we first want to have guarantee of fuel, and then purchase the vehicle.

Similarly, we must first have GPU's and then we must have big screens.... its a progression and its meant to be that way.

Unfortunately, the trends are reversing. Snapdragon 800 w/ Adreno 320 is good for FullHD. So far so Good.
From here, we should've upgraded the GPU first. But no, instead we went for QHD. Which is around 3-4 megapixels, double of the previous. Did our GPU get double the speed?

I'm all in for progress, but that shouldn't come with unneeded burdens & losses, which can avoided by avoiding stupidity.

See for example, Camera megapixels, they keep increasing but quality has only gone down since analog photography times. :(
And its just easy to create a good quality camera: Big sensor, lesser megapixels, like around 8 MP.

Today, flagship cars carry a goo0d amount of bhp, but if it burdens it with excessive weight, who the hell will purchase them?

So, all cheers for big Screens, but let's see Adreno 500, before we even peek at the 4K Mobile screen.
We don't want a LG G3 like phone.

[deleted post]Sharp is a display company. So it will produce better and better display regardless of the consumer needs. Sharp does not produce batteries so why are people telling them to research on batteries. It's like telling quallcom to improve the quality of aluminum casing. Not related at all. This is technology. It will improve way beyond human capabilities. Whether they want it or not

phone manufacturer keeps pushing the envelopes with screen resolution, processing power, and memory, but none ever made any breakthrough in the field of battery, why can't they make smartphone battery last for a week under heavy use before needed charging.

The Note 3 and 4 have Super Amoled screen which is worse than IPS LCD. The Amoleds needs non-RGB subixels to extend lifespan. But the non-RGB makes the screen pixelated. To avoid this, it needs extra high resolution to reduce pixelation. (And don't forget that in these non-RGB Amoled screens, the real resolution is lower than the nominal.)
