They use low clock speed for two main reasons.

1.low battery capacity and 2. profit which ties back into the first one.
The 8x is not that far ahead nor is the 8

But qualcomm must have realised that one of its executives calling the obvious future direction (their own words a week later from the original comment) of mobile processors a 'gimmick' with no substantiating evidence isn't really going to go well with people whi know their technology.. Though android fanboys loved it. They still believe in it like it is the word of god :P
There were benifits other than more ram which they just couldn't really deny.

Really? are you referring to someone who is, who... moreWell since you are a fanboy in denial you can go ahead and read the iphone 5s review gsmarena did under the "performance" section and compare the 5 vs 5s performance which will still give you the same conclusion, that whatever qualcomm tried to say there was no denying that 64bit was improving performance whether or not you crossed the 4gb barrier.

And if you stop being a fanboy you will observe "good" android devices have got better reviews on anandtech than iphones..

Whether we really need it or not is another discussion. When realistcally are we likely to see commercially avaiable devices shipping with the 810 processor?

Muthu, 24 Nov 2014Agree completely with you. We don't need 4GB RAM for phones. Well, it doesn't you need those 4 GB now, but later after each app will need 1 GB, like it was the same with PC games, and you really had to wait until RAM was used a lot.

Ok, I see that allot of people clearly missed the "DEVELOPMENT PLATFORMS" parts so let me put it in short terms. THESE TWO DEVICES ARE NOT MEANT FOR AVERAGE CONSUMERS! These devices are meant to be used by the developers. That's why they are fully loaded with sensors and the latest hardware. 4 gigs of RAM are there for testing purposes only. These devices are meant to be pushed to their limits, so when your beloved Z4, S6, HTC M9 hits development, the developers will know exactly what to look for

It is a sad state that these days people put fanboyism ahead of well researched and tested articles by far more knowledgible and unbiased people..
Been an android user all my life but I don't go around denying that apple has huge contributions in SoC and optimizing and designing their iOS as they have (it does put restrictions like lack of true multi tasking but delivers performancewise). Sadly I get branded as an Android hater for that..

I really want the Android spec race to end at some point. My laptop should need 4gb ram to run smoothly not my phone :P
