iPhone 6s: Samsung and TSMC A9 chips yield different battery life

08 October, 2015
The Samsung-made chip depletes the battery up to 33% faster in consecutive GeekBench runs, real-life difference much smaller.

Samsung 'screwed' it.
Samsung inferior.

You replied to someone asking for a source while just making more statements, without sources.

circuit design and logic will be same for both same TSMC and samsung SoCs,
if samsung screws it , then you can't blame apple for that..
samsung manufacturing was inferior to TSMC for a very long period and now only they are comparable

samsung FinFet tech is actually stolen from TSMC by covet means..
google abt it if you know how to

Apparently Apple designs it and Samsung just manufactures it right? So how can you possibly blame anything on Samsung? ;-)

AnonD-369311, 08 Oct 2015Exactly, Apple bought Samsung processors for their flagship... moresamsung manufacturing process is inferior when compared to TSMC and others..
only advantage samsung has is , its capacity and nothing else

same with their mobiles.. sony and etc got better phones , but samsung does ship more bcoz of capacity

kakouille, 08 Oct 2015yes,of course, thats why apple choose samsungif samsung is the best , apple might not have gone with TSMC.
TSMC has capacity constraints which is the only reason samsung is getting orders from apple.

Remember apple was using hummingbird processor initially ( by samsung ) and they ditched it.

well apple has also said in tests the margin between the 2 chips is only 2 to 3% in the real world usage , through there own testing and customer testing. so apple fans can rejoice. plus they took it a step further and compared 2 of the same tsmc chipset and still came within the 2 to 3% margin between the 2. so 2 identical phones also have the same problems? if anything it sounds like samsung was the back up company for chips to meet demand. and the software optimization was only done on the tsmc chip if that is the case. the problem with youtube tests is they can be scewed by the tester. do you know what was running on the device in the background? do you know if 1 had a sim and one didnt? there are a bunch of unknowns. im sure i could take a tsmc phone run the same test and scew it to death if i wanted to. just open a bunch of apps and slap them in the back ground. then put in a roaming sim so it is constantly draining battery with antenna on the tsmc. then run a samsung chip right after a fresh reboot in airplane mode or no sim card in it at all. i could guarantee you at least a 50% difference in battery life that way. turn lte on on one phone.
to many things a person can do to skew the results for this , you could never prove unless you had both phones in hand.

Let's focus on the tech improvements and how to make things better for everyone. How are these fanboy discussions (yup from both ends) going to help improve humanity? Keep this up and we'll devolve into neanderthals and apes clubbing each other.

LOL Samsung just trolling with Apple. Samsung knew that Apple needed them despite whatever chip they chose to supply Apple with. Those 14nm chips on galaxys are doing great so it's no problem with their 14nm manufacturing. Samsung intentionally supplied inferior 14nm chips to Apple just to screw the iphone and Apple has no choice but to accept it and pass on to its customers

And here I thought Apple Designs these *Amazing* processors and chip and Samsung is just the manufacturer ... yet the moment there is an issue is Samsung's fault.

It seems Apple can't design good enough for the 14nm process and Samsung is just following the design is been given.

Customer: yes, this is the Samsung iPhone you sold me.
Apple: correct the new 6 "s" stands for Samsung and Sh$% performance and longevity. I'll be right back with the better phone for you. It will cost you extra though.

Well TSMC did make a big deal about its 16nm FinFET Plus technology,
"TSMC claimed on its most recent earnings call that its 16-nanometer FinFET Plus technology can deliver about 10% more performance than Samsung's best 14-nanometer technology at the same power level. "
