The T880MP4 doesn't seem that bad, depends on where Mediatek want to market the X10, it'll of course be weak when compared to this years coming flagship grade mobile GPU's, the Exynos 8890 is using the 12 core version of the T880, and the Adreno 530 is supposed to be a beast in it's own right for instance.

But in the Upper midrange segment, I think it'll be ok, probably around similar performance to the T760MP6 used in the Exynos 5433 I'd guess.

The A72s would only be used for intense games and VERY demanding photo/video editting apps, I don't really see any other usecase for those cores. And in those usecases, you'll definitely feel the dip in performance. It's a shame, but then there is also the healthy battery efficiency boost from the jump to 20nm from 28nm and also the increased GPU grunt. In the end I think we'll see a much bigger real-world performance difference b/w x20 and x10 as compared to s810 and s805.

The Snapdragon 617 is an upgraded version of 615 and unlike 615 it can run with all 8 cores. Tho the GPU is the same it is bit more fluid overall in usage due to the ability to use all 8 at the same time.

AnonD-415420, 03 Feb 2016Read the article again. True Octa-core means, that all 8 c... moreWhat you are referring to is HMP (Heterogeneous Multi Processing) or Global Task Scheduling, and yes the 615 lacks that ability (maybe I should have suggest the 617 instead).

However that is different from what Mediatek were marketing as a 'True' Octa-Core solution in the X10. By that, they meant all 8 cores having access to the same frequency rate, and thus being able to run all 8 core's at the SoC's highest rate, which I believe on the X10 was 2.2Ghz???

Now it seems Mediatek have changed their tune and are using this 'True' term to mean the more familiar use of a HMP enabled, big.LITTLE setup.

True Octa-core means, that all 8 cores can run at same time, it doesn't need all to cores be identical.
Snap 615 can't run all his eight cores simultaneously , it works either at big cluster (quad core 1.5 GHz A53) or Little (quad core 1.0 GHz A53), depending on load.

This is not how I imagined it too. Because if It is octa core a53 and dual core a72 than there is just big-little... I thought they made 'big-middle-little' designe to preserve battery power and control heat, so this elaboration about true octa core plus 2xA72 doesn't sound that good... It sounds like Helio x10 + 2xa72? And I am not really a fan of T880 with only 4 cores...

                I don't get it???

If this report is correct in that after a certain threshold is reached the A72 cores shut down, then this still wouldn't make the X20 a 'True' Octa-Core solution, as its 8 A53 cores are treated as two separate Quad-Core units, one clocked at 2.0Ghz and the other at around 1.5Ghz.

Doesn't really mean than this more of a triple level big.LITTLE design, and that after shutting down the top level, it then just becomes your standard Quad-Core + Quad-Core big.LITTLE chip (kind of like the Snapdragon 615 or such) ???

Anyway, it's still Mediatek whuch is a cheaper alternative to SnapDragon.
You have what you buy. Period. If you did a bad choice, at least admit it and go for something better, don't pretend it's not true. As a customer, you are the loosing one, not the company you are blindly defending.

They better go with just 3 underclocked A72 without any A53 cores, but with 3-4 times more GPU cores.

Just like SD810, it is refined but still feel rather warm in used.
Might as well avoid this Helio X20.
